I was surprised to find my thief and sorcerer cannot shoot adjacent enemies when I had noticed monster archers can shoot in melee just fine. I find this a strange imbalance.
I think those ranged monsters either need to spend AP to get away, or use some sort of inferior close range attack. That way, the player can tactically hamper enemies as they can hamper the player.

mortenThis was a big problem for me in the Alpha. Since then the Bowrats hang back allot more than the used to. However, during play yesterday, I had one go right past the Outlander and stop right in front of the Wizard and Thief, who where two squares back. Tamlin was trying to shoot enemy targets in front of Vraes, and Karjtan was trying to cast Choking ash. They had to step back, putting Karjtan out of casting range. I'm sure fallen and Cory Trese will keep tweaking it. For now, choke points, or having Vraes charge into ranged attackers is your best bet. They will stick to Vraes if you get adjacent to them or far enough out in front of the group, say 4 hex or so.

Thanks for the feedback and for bringing it up again. Monsters definitely play by a slightly different set of rules than players. The AI is an evolving project, so stay tuned.
