Well, I feel a bit like the odd one out here, but my favorite book has to be Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevtsky. Zamarokov Brothers has to come in second- I love how dysfunctional all his heroes are. I also liked David Weber's Captain Honor Harrington series- even named a ST MO after her. She didn't last long. Good shows: Dead like Me, Scandal, and I really need to watch the Americans. It looks good but I keep missing it!!

Inspector Cluzo, "Does your dog bite?"
I'm sure I've quoted monty python, I can't remember what other movies.
Huge Star Wars fan, saw it 4 times when it first came out. Logan's Run is obscure and good.
BLADE RUNNER
Check out Hugh Howley's Wool or Sand... good new SF books.

Logan's Run is very good, I really liked the movie.
you should read the book if you get a chance, much longer than the movie with a different ending too.
Both movie & book are very interesting.

Hahaha ... I'm not that old.
and the only cat I have around here is the Neighbor's one (whom I have quietly been working on convincing that I am a better owner than they are by offering lots of bribes and cuddles).
Obviously I've quoted Aliens a chunk of times, and I like things like Last Starfighter, Princess Bride, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Star Wars (4,5,6).
How I met your mother
Books - Can't go past Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, and Raymond E Feist's Magician/Rift War series

Hmm my lists would be waaay to long so I'll just hit a few highlights... TV Firefly/Serenity (would love to drop a Cadar torp on the idiots that messed up then cancelled that.) Star Trek (all the various series had their high points.)
and a final non Sci-Fi TV show that left a lasting impression... M.A.S.H.
Movies Already mentioned Serenity Blade Runner (movie was good, book was better.) Split Second (if you've not seen this then you need to hunt it up and watch it!)
Books Armor, by John Steakly (sorry TA but you got nothing on these poor saps.) Ender's Game (Original novella was intense, full length novel amazing, scared to watch the movie for fear they've mangled it.) The Running Man (prime example of why you don't sell out to Hollywood, little beyond the name survived the movie.) Anything written by (in no particular order) David Drake David Weber Steve Perry Laural K. Hamilton Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb (hey ignore the fact that most of her books have been published as Romances, the lady writes a great story just about every time.)
Honorable mention goes to... Webster's dictionary Encyclopedia Britanica Wikipedia and Google (hate to include these but they're just way to useful for all sorts of random factoids)

Oh oh and how could I forget Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. And Suits. And 24 before it just made you feel "really, Jack must be the unluckiest bastard on the planet".

And 24 before you start to wonder why the terrorists only ever attack LA - really, if Jack stops them every time they get there, why not just hit somewhere else? New York would be great, but they've got John McClane as their own version of Jack...

I just used wikipedia to find out trebuchets were first seen in the 12th century. I'm a social scientist and find wikipedia useful for work--great entry level descriptions of things.
The Wheel of Time is on my list, but I'm on a sci-fi, post-apocalypse, dystopia bent for now. The Logan's Run book matches that. All I could find on Amazon was the first book of the trilogy in hardback. So, I found a pdf version of the trilogy and started reading last night. Good stuff.
Any of you guys like Blade Runner, one of the best SF movies of all time in my opinion. Source of my avatar.

lol. One of these days I may have to read about the androids and sheep. Blade Runner (the original novel the movie was based on) was originally published under the title "Do androids dream of electric sheep". If you've read Blade Runner then you've already read about androids and sheep. LOL
