So, is the reference to Spice in ST from Dune, Star Wars, or some other source?

Well, we know ST: RPG is taken from a home-brew role-playing game Cory and his brother ran. (I think they might have written it too) So the spice reference comes from that game.
That said, I'd bet a plug-nickel (if I was the betting sort, which I'm not) that Cory's a geek. So I'd guess it's a reference to Herbert's Dune books, yes.
But I could be wrong, easily. I don't recall him ever mentioning it.

Well, there we go.
I now recall Cory mentioning he loves Dune.
So, yeah, I suspect "The Spice Must Flow!"

I say we make a new cargo type, sligs. They sell for above average prices, but will eat other cargo in your hold if you keep them in there too long. ;-)

Imprinters? Oh man, all that Chapterhouse Dune stuff is where Herbert went from critique of philosophy, economics, and warfare to sweet, sweet battle nun on ghola clone porno.
Also, if you don't say shigawire, it's not real shigawire!
Regarding H-K weapons, some assassination attempts would be bad ass. Maybe in the next game?

..I'm starting to feel out of my depth...I read Dune.... and felt as though I completely missed the entire point by the time I got to the end; a feeling akin to how I felt upon reading The Old Man and the Sea, which I loathe. This bothers me, since i know Dune is a classic & held in high regard by a lot of people, and moreover, I'm a huge SF fan. Odd. Maybe I'll go re-read it.

Dune works for some people, not for others. Frank Herbert's saga is good, I think the first book (Dune) is great. I think a lot of times readers loose site of the forest (philosophical musings on man and his motivations) for the trees (Paul and Freemen.)
