Are you looking into advanced map functions, like:
1) Autopilot 2) Favorites/Bookmarks - So if I fins a great planet or leave a great cache, I can easily mark where it is and return to it

I really like the favorites. More than caches and exploration, I'd probably use it on homeworlds and such. As it is, I usually look up homeworlds in the conflict menu.

You can also touch the flag in Factions to get a Waypoint to that Faction's base.

autopilot could be a dangerous addition in this game you'd need straight-shot vs. green-only logic and the current pilot programming is pretty darn simple compared to that goal

I'm interested to see how this goes. What kind of Autopilot are we talking about, since it's obviously something more advanced than the waypoints we've been using...and here I thought those have been pretty sufficient?

The new UI is to help new players. I'd love feedback.
Tap a Sector and Ship stars flying there. Tap anywhere else, top moving. Tap Adjacent Sector, Ship Flies there (today) Long Press Any Sector for Detailed Zone Pop Up
Waypoints Remain as-is
--
Concept: I am flying around, set a Waypoint to a Contract. It says to head SE, but that's not the right way -- I know I need to fly east first. I tap the last green sector 6 sectors away from me in green and the ship flies there.
Combat or whatever might interrupt, or I arrive safe. I see the Waypoint now says South and I consider my options. I use a few short single hex moves to make an efficient transit around a dead planet, and then another 6 hexes on auto pilot to travel south.

Autopilot feature is in testing now. Andrew helped out with the code and I am pretty happy.
It is smart enough to avoid Red Sectors, navigate around Dead Planets and Stars. Relatively smart (but not as smart as a good player I suspect) at estimating fuel cost for different paths.

I had already typed out a suggestion for this and found this post so I will put it here. Hope no one minds this being resurrected.
Course plotting seems to just set the destination but it doesn’t actually set a course on the map that you can follow. Also could it be possible to add an option to continue on destination after a pirate encounter or acknowledgment from merchants? For example make a button on the map to continue to destination or make it a check box option.
Autopilot is exactly what I was thinking about, and it could be setup to choose shortest route and or less fuel intensive route.

we're working on a button that (without crashing any phone, ever) can auto-matically send you a waypath to the waypoint so that navigation is faster and more auto.
we're working on it. the challenge is that this game was written like a board game -- one move, one turn, on square.
early versions only allowed you to move into adjacent squares -- it used to take a LOT of tapping to get around haha. We're working to improve the UX without re-forging the entire game engine.
