Ok, had a good lunch break. Gildenbelt is coming on strong now. A little weapons trading got me an Honor Thulun and now it's time to blockade and spy war until my rep is up all around. Might have to do a little contracting to get the money to buy rank and ships. I'm probably going to wait until I have all the rep and cash to start buying rank and ships. How much will that take 6m?

Please count in "Comet Whisperer", the famous Javat smuggler made famous when he once smuggled a Thulun customs officer through his own customs, though getting a late start on it.

Awesome travail, good luck - Comet Whisperer still has plenty of time to complete his collection. Glurk the Stoopid is still within the first 1000 turns himself, and I'm confident Glurk has what it takes.

The more the merrier! I'm beginning to feel lonely being the only one posting so far. I do not care about winning, this was FUN, and that's all I need.

Glurk the Stoopid is checking in. He's just passed turn 1150 on Crazy, and is sitting on level 7 with $241k in the bank. He's still in his original starting vessel, and hasn't even gotten around to putting any decent upgrades in it yet. Pilot is at 20, but that's really about it.

Ugh, just got schooled by the new Jango One. It was a indy bounty hunter I actually had a contract on. I had to surrender and lost half my cash, time and failed 3 other contracts I was carrying. I'm at turn 3400 and only have just over 1m. My rep with everyone is sufficient to buy the ranks I need except for Javat and Thulun, but they're not bad either.

It's the cash thing that is the stumper in this challenge - who woulda thunk! Getting the rep and rank is pretty straight forward, but those flagships don't come cheap. Stupid expensive leather upholstery and talking computer voice.

Ok, took most of my Saturday morning and completed the challenge. Nigel successfully completed the challenge in 5,687 turns and had all 6 ships at the end. His combined rank with all factions is 81. So his final score is:
4313 (turns) + 6,000 (ships) + 810 (rank) = 11,123
There is one more rank screenshot I could post if anyone has doubts. Since you can only attache 3 at a time, I didn't want to make a new post just for it.

Obituary: Capt Hornblowera level 26 captain. Was cruelly cut down in the prime of his life by an alien. Pride of Dw Valtos was lost with all hands. He will be missed by Clan Javat, rank 17, Steel Song rank 11 and Carat rank 5. Total score 330.

Oh Crap Lurker - how on earth can I beat that! ... I'm on turn 3501 with 1 flagship to my name, and $215k in the bank. There are just not enough wars at the moment ... damn galaxy is doing the peace and love and kum ba yah. Don't they know wars help people. They make industries flourish and hard workers like Glurk the Stoopid richer. More updates as they come to hand ...

slayernz, thanks for putting this challenge together. Regardless of whether Nigel's score holds out, I had fun. In the end it was all about making a lot of money, but I the extra elements of having to have good rep with everybody and buy this ships made it more interesting than "see who can bank the most cash in 10,000 turns." A few things that I think help. 1) There's a huge advantage to being a Military Officer. The discount on rank just can't be beat. 2) There's a good thread somewheres about how to make money fast. It should have been posted to the discussion board. Nigel got his rep up with almost everybody fast and then started doing contracts. Having higher rep gets you better pay for contracts and if you can get 5 going from corner to corner you can make almost 500,000 a trip. 3) Knowing where to buy ships help. I saw a difference of 500,000 in the price of the DV Flagship between different planets. I discovered that Butakov Prime has the best prices.

Have just not had the time to devote, but after a few more false starts, Comet Whisperer is never going to catch lurker- one flagship at 5561 turns on crazy, with 35 rank promotions at this time. Solvent, in a Javat flagship, and building... think I'm going to finish this one out as best I can since I'm finally rocking and rolling.
Great challenge! Lots of fun to struggle with. (Gnashing of teeth not included.)
Congrats Lurker!

Glurk the Stoopid officially concedes the challenge after running out of time (real time not game time). Glurk secured the De Valtos, Rychart, Cadar and Steel Song flagships, and has a total rank pile of 81 (didn't get a single rank in Thulun - never liked them anyway). Final (abandoned game) score of 4810 Awesome completions for NTsheep and Lurker. As usual, Lurker you are my challenge Nemesis, and I wouldn't have it any other way
