...that makes me love blowing them up so much???
The other "Royal Houses" are just as annoying for some reason.
Then there is Javat. Oh, poor little Javat. They just seem really sad and pathetic to me. Each time I blow up another Javat bounty hunter, I feel like the enforcer of Darwin's Decree of Natural Selection. It is kind of like clubbing a baby seal.
Somehow, when I take out a Thulun merchant, I get this mental image of carpet bombing Sal's Used Cars, and all these little Thulun used-car salesmen in their cheap polyester suits running for cover.
Yeah, I got problems, lol!

I think all my characters have been Steel Song. Personally I tend to find Rychart vessels the most satisfying to destroy, with De Valtos coming in just behind.

Ah vwllss, I see where you've been going wrong in this game then ... playing Steel Song is like flying around with a large "Please kick me" sign attached to the back of your ship. Of course, I say this with the slight bias of starting my STRPG experience flying for Cadar Airways, and Steel Song and Thulun always seemed to get in the way of my torpedo live-fire exercises. Torps aren't cheap and having to replace them because they got embedded in some Steel Song hull really annoyed me, so I've since had a life-long mission to create significant amounts of Steel Song confetti between here and Xeen Prime.

I used to hate the Big-Hats, too. They were hosing my Smugglers left and right until I realized that they had the best guns/engines ships on the Syndicate side. Rychart Infiltrators are a bomb-ass mid-range ship and the Pride of Rychart is just dandy. They've also got some sweet planets out towards the middle of the map.
Javat is like the House version of Rychart. The Cutter and Honor are both fantastic ships. Wild/Urban zone mixed planets. Nice cruisers and great planet placement.
I was originally a Cadar/Thulun fan, but I've grown to see them for the flashy, silly factions they are. DeValtos and Steel Song, however, never really interested me as anything but targets and trading partners.

I dunno, my Cadar characters just always seem to be insanely more successful than any other faction.
As far as faction ships, I have only twice used them for actual missions and standard gameplay. I will use the crap out of the Pride of De Valtos for drydock storage though, and I use cheap faction shuttles to help facilitate moving drydock storage ships around. But if you want a good faction ship, I recommend the Honor of Thulun. It is the second best ship in the game, right below the Spear Class, if you are going to be a combat class player.
Most of the time on Crazy difficulty, and frequently even on Impossible difficulty, I can jack a top end ship like a Terror or Spear class ship before I can afford to buy a faction ship, and well before level 10.

I generally don't start as Cadar any more, but will go to lengths not to get negative RP with them ... I don't know why, because yes they are over bureaucratic and like to answer standard hails with a torpedo or thirteen, but they didn't get the best torpedoes in the galaxy by just test-firing them at dummy targets, so I have to respect them for that.
