I am playing 3.6.15 and five of the factions are all under embargo. I thought you said, Cory, that you were going to fix the number of factions that can be under embargo?
I am playing on challenging if that helps.

That is possible, just very, very rare.
This had to happen due to bad coordination of peace attempt rolls that all failed in a row.
Probably happens a few times every 100,000 turns.

Hope you've been putting away your goods for a rainy day!
Only 5 factions embargoed? I've seen total quadrant deadlocks many, many times in a long career on Crazy. Either you violate the embargo lightly, and rebuy your permit and kiss up to raise your rep back up later, or you trade with the old red and white for a spell.
Unloading 65 tons of artifacts under shortage now is usually worth rebuying a permit later.

Total quadrant deadlock? Christ. And, no. It happend at about 60 something A.E. So, yeah. No chance to stockpile.

It only takes the right 3 embargos to lock out all six factions. Usually it's not a total lock for all that long. If you don't have the fuel to make it to an Independant world, fill your tank and fly immediately to the faction you've wronged to renew your trade permit.
You've got to start stocking water early in the game. Worst case scenario, get to a wild zone and harvest for water. Cache the other goods until you have a place to sell them.
In the early game, you've got to work on Pilot, Intimidate, and carry some luxury rations to retard your water consumption. Also, fly on green squares as much as possible.

Use a merchant with the nequetim erro. No fuel use in green zones.

Cory, is it possible, at least theoretically, for every faction to have an embargo with every other faction.
So you can't trade with anyone without pissing off everyone else.

It's definitely not a 1:100,000 turn event Cory - it happens at least once in most games I play on Crazy or Insane. I have noticed it as early as within the first 50 turns of the game, and I've seen factions go from Trade Alliance in one turn to Trade Embargo the next. I think to myself ... I'm SURE I didn't cause that - who knew that those luxury rations were actually the offspring of Thulun dogs. oKay ... so I knew, but nobody would miss em and let's face it, I'm doing the galaxy some good. Usually it's done by 3 or 4 independent trade embargoes. However, I've also seen one faction have 3 trade embargoes with others ... as you might expect, it was Steel Song They annoyed Rychart, Cadar, AND Javat at the same time.

I don't think I've ever seen a 15 embargo cluster embargo. That, however, would be awesome. Often, trade alliances seem rise from enemy of my enemy embargoes.

I definitely agree that seeing the max embargo cluster would be impressive. You get that when all 17 of the moons of Antronin are aligned.

Slayer -- Sorry, I was speaking of a scenario where every Faction was in Trade Ban with Every other Faction. That is rare =)

Now, if Cory would tell us what player actions encourage embargoes, I've got a Captain that would do it just to chap the Princes.
Hit 'em where it hurts, I say.
