I prefer lots of archers when there is corners for cover or wide open areas. String them out. They mostly run right at the party at full speed so I don't have to spend so much time under fire. Oh, they squish nicely too.

Oh I've got so many good things for this thread right now.
I love it when I find Scale of the Order armor! 30 armor plus 16HP.

Really tempted to try an avoidance build on any character and see how it works on nightmare. Sadly I hate shields.

I totally think you could do it. Mine is pretty awesome and she doesn't use a shield. I've put every point into dexterity and then with her Quicksilver Defense and Warder's Shield she's sooo hard to hit. My Vrae's dexterity build might not be Nightmare worthy though. He's pretty good against melee, but archers still hit him pretty regularly. The nice thing though is that with two fighters who can stand their own in combat you can move them around and expose Selen to the archers and let Vraes take the melee guys on, or pull her back if she needs a rest and let Vraes get beat on instead. It really spreads out the damage you take rather than having it all focused on the big V.

You probably can, but then there is giving up Tamilin for Selen. As much as I love Selen, I find Tamilin works out better with how I play due to being such an amazing ranged assassin. I might have to just punch myself into submission to try something unusual.

Selen has the same archer problem as Vraes so far in NM. Pretty much, losing the extra "Parry" check, esp. at high parry, against damage means that archers will tend to slowly chew you up.

Because dexterity improves both dodge and bow ability, Tamilin is likely one of easiest classes to turned into a war machine, esp with Aimed Shot maxed out. Since she can kill most enemies in two or three attacks, she can easily step back from a close enemy and kill them with ranged attacks without having to use melee skill. There are a few times she get's pinched with no room to back up, but that's what the other members come in handy. I just don't see Selen having the same benefit as Tamilin. She's a good add and offers a different flavor of combat but just ask all Ratkin killed by arrows which they fear more.

Got to say that you need to try Selen as an archer though. Her pinning shot has AoE and when you start adding criticals to that I think she can often do more damage than Tam, even if its spread between multiple foes. And then anyone who doesn't die is gimped and ready for Vraes to come in doing massive damage with crushing blow.

Selen brings Dodge, Parry & Armor debuffs, as well as healthy DPS. She functions well as a tank if you build her Dex & self buff, better than Vraes vs. missile fire. All that means she complements any other debuffers since they stack. Tamil cannot tank nearly as well and is pretty much all about personal DPS, which works well enough.
Outside example if you played EQ, Clerics were the raid healers without peer and good in parties, but the king of single party exp grinding was the Shamans. Sure his direct heals weren't so hot, but by the time you combined Haste, Slow, Regen & Cannibalize, mobs got killed faster & with less downtime.
