John Robinson - in Melee, the melee weapon skill is used. So, if you are carrying a blade, then your Blades skill and your Parry from the Blade are used. In Ranged / Magical Defense, you'll see that no weapon skill or parry stat is used for dice.

A question about Resistance, does it block all magical damage? Including melee damage with elemental effects like Burning Blades,Thundering Blades, or elemental incantations?
In summary, I'm thinking of a build with Vraes,Fyona, and Selen as tank, off tank, and crithit/curser/skirmisher respectively, with Fyona's Holy Sticking make striping resistance and Punishing Blades taking armour and pining shot taking AP when Vincent can't.. With Vincent as my mage, Energy Storm, Thundering Blades, and his -damage and -AP curses(don't remember their names) will support the melee wall as the kill everything in front of them.
I'm wondering if all of Vincent's +lighting buffs and -lighting debuffs could combine effectively with Holy Strikining to lay down a lot of damage.
While we're at at, are Armor and Resistance mutually exclusive? Does physical damage ignore resistance and magical ignore armor?

ncaoa - yes, it does. The example discusses an attack with a sword that has 2 elemental damages attached and you can see Resistance getting involved.

Yoh John Robinson, that morning sounded a bit rough, maybe Balgair should go a little easier on the pipe. ;-)

Very good Mr. T. Why doesn't the mathematical equation for more coffee equals fewer dumb questions work? Are there Dice involved or is it a curse? Maybe I should "Wishlist" this for fallen to fix in the next release. You think I'm bad Vernak's Cultists must be smoking something very strange indeed.

Coffee should really work, you must just be getting bad roles. If you don't see improvement you might need espresso to add some strong dice.
I hear that Oskahold Gold is pretty sweet stuff.

Either that or move to direct methods of caffination to speed the process. After all, there are gums, mints, candies, sodas, chocolates, etc. that are available.

Willpower does not appear in the combat dice at all. It reduces the chance of curses sticking to your characters, but does not cause any Strong or Standard dice. Any chance we can get a clarification on the mechanism of this? Through Ep. 2 in all of my games, I have yet to add a point to willpower. This could make me give a second look at the attribute, especially after a few particular battles in Ep. 2.

I thought Resistance acted as a soak vs the appropriate stuff...so armor is "physical resistance" vs. physical damage.

tenbsmithI was quoting Fallen's comment regarding willpower affecting curses sticking. This is an undocumented game effect, and what I wanted elaboration on. The statement made it seem like willpower has additional effects beyond improving resistance, therefore making it much more valuable to put points into. If certain Ep 2 battles are any indicator, curses in the later part of the game are likely to be terrifying even to the stoutest of Vrae's character builds.

algesan is correct, Resistance soaks magical damage using the same formula as armor uses to soak physical damage: (Stat/2) + D(Stat/2). (Sorry phaze, my post about resistance was a bit of a red herring). fallen, could you reveal of the mechanics behind wisdom preventing curses from sticking?
