I'm sure you're most worried about logins, given the authentication changes.
So let me quickly say I logged in initially with a fairly quick confirmation. I then logged out twice and back in twice. Both were almost instantaneous on my phone. So I'd say that's working.
(the new buttons on the splash page seemed to work too)

Just played a quick few turns in what's essentially a server closet where no cell signal gets through... Was able to start / stop / restart with no issues whatsoever - and the DRM is super fast now.

Hopefully the new mode will strike a better balance for everyone and still ensure that declined credit cards don't result in a free Elite edition.

Even if the cache allows you to play up to one or two weeks after you last checked in, that is good enough

So am I, sorry.
Also, Amazon DRM is different and I have no control over it like I do with Google.

So am I, sorry. Also, Amazon DRM is different and I have no control over it like I do with Google. That's unacceptable. Made me uninstall the game. Just so I could re-buy it through the Google Market. TAKE THAT, AMAZON!!! I will not be denied updates!!

I get the "Boo DRM" comments, I do understand.
If Google provided a different system it might not be important.
As it is, this little DRM check (which I just pretty much removed) is the only thing that encourages market users to enter a valid credit card number. Google will take pretty much anything and the DRM / License Validation Library is the answer developers have.
PS: I mean developers like me. Big shops can have content servers, implement their own license validation checks that don't act like DRM (ie, protect update and initial content download instead of game play) but that all requires a lot of custom engineering. Things I'm just not scaled to support I'm afraid.
