At the end of E1A2, the party gets the option to support Barnett as the new Baron. How many people have supported him and how many have declined? The plot gives hints either way.
My current party declined on the grounds that Barnett might be a suitable knight but a questionable baron.

It is a significant choice in terms of the branching story line.
However, there is not a right answer nor a wrong answer.

I'm planning on having my Paladin party reject him just to see.

I've done both, but you don't get to see the outcome of your choice in episode 1.

After promising to rebuild and restore order. I figured he was the best choice for new baron, and answered yes.
I've had second thoughts after he said "Every village will get what it deserves"
This sounds like an ominous portent for the future of Riven Field.
I'm creating a second group for E2 and say No. If he doesn't like it, we are still Rythien's chosen four, if we can stand against an Insane God as well as Rabiel. I say bring it Baron Barnett.

Said yes with first group and planning on saying yes with current group. Figure anyone I help place in a position of power I can help remove from that position if they get to obnoxious and in the meantime they OWE me. Will get around to telling him to go kick rocks at some point just to see what happens, but rather hard to have any sympathy for some greedy merchant types that were to busy counting their coppers to actually bother even noticing they had a serious problem brewing.

I was thinking he has a personal vendetta against Riven Field because they tried to imprison him. Riven Field has always been independent even under the old Baron. There were no raids for men to work in the digging camps. This suggests Riven Field is an important economic driver effecting the whole area.
You don't have to like the goose, but you do want to keep the golden eggs coming.
Besides Balgair lives their so it must be a fine upstanding village containing only the very virtuous citizens who would never stoop to greed or shady dealing. Is he not an example of what the very best dark alleys and nefarious drinking establishments have to offer? What's that smell?
