Not sure if this is just because I'm playing on Brutal this time instead of Hard like last time, but going through the Ratkin Warrens under the Vault and getting into massive battles.
Will trigger an encounter in one approach tunnel to a Ratkin village and it seems to pull in every enemy from miles arround without me moving.
Last fight I had lasted 30+ turns. I cleared out the shaman, archers and sword rats that were either in view (started with a couple Sly Looks to have clear lines of vision for the fight.) or just out of sight at start of battle in first half dozen turns. However the enemy just kept showing up. No serious threat to the parties lives as they arrived 1-3 at a time and rarely lasted long enough to get more than a single attack on anyone. But the extended battle forced me to consume a bunch of potions as SP was constantly being drained.
Last time, playing on hard v1.2.23 I'm pretty sure this was at least 3 seperate encounters/fights and not a single extended battle.
Is this just me dealing with Brutal or a possible bug in the AI?

xdesperado - it is not a bug. It has to do with how you approach the encounter and which groups of monsters you trigger. The monster groups loaded will also be different every playthrough, sometimes larger in some areas and sometimes not.

fallen thanks. Only had one tunnel to approach the last encounter with and was expecting to get a stiff fight (village around 3rd level exit to vault) but this and the previous couple I'd had seemed a bit excessive so was just curious. LOL

LOL I just had that fight yesterday in my first attempt at Brutal after doing many, many easy games start to finish. I was doing great on Brutal until that fight....got all the way down to the two Deathkin and ran completely out of spell points with my attackers. I lasted another six rounds only healing Vraes before the last of Kyera's spell points faded. Had to do a full reset because I didn't have any spell potions. :-( Brutal...sounds about right. :-P

Outsider if your talking about the first Deathkin fight where you see the Great Shaman disapear down the stairs I had an easy time of it on this play through. Stayed back by the entrance and used Selen, Kjarten and Kyera to pick off archers and haras the Sword rats and Deathkin as they closed. By the time they got to melee range they were down AP due to Pinning Shot and an occasional Ethereal Anguish and short Armor from Choking Ash making it easy for Vraes to finish them off. The couple times they really pressed hard Selen stepped up with Punishing Blades to further reduce their Armor and helped Vraes polish them off with Frenzied Blows. Did burn some potions but was never seriously concerned about getting through a turn.
