I bought a cool new ship, (traded in my old) but there was almost no food to be had in town. Had 3 mutinies sailing for lunch. Then the kraken came and ate me. Either I had no ammo, or way too little for a new Man o War.

Maybe a bit more food? ran out again twice getting from a 'no food' place to the closest agricultural settlement. It is not as if I would have minded having the barrels of rations I was carrying on my old ship transferred to my new one ...

I make sure I sell all shot and rations to the marketplace before buying a new ship. This way there is at least enough available to buy. You lose some silver but worked for me. Playing on cakewalk normal tho.

When you buy a new ship and sell an old one there should be an option or automatic transfer of goods.
I would consider this a bug.

Yes, I'd really like to be able to transfer my cargo to the new ship. Es[ecially when I have stuff like silk, spices, maps and journals that I might not even be able to sell in the current port. I tend to accumulate those things until i get to a port where I can sell them, and it sucks to have to choose between my accumulated high-value loot or a new ship, when I ought to be able to just move them with me.
