I picked up a contract in World Harbour. (or possibly Old Port, but I think World Harbour).
It was for a place 60 away.
Now I am in Helgueras, Old Port. And the commission now thinks it is 30 units away.
Problem is that the commission is to Tamurejo in Stag's Leap, no where near where I am. Even if I could fly I could not get there in time.

More wonky distance reports.
I was in the Copper Mountains. I picked up 3 Commissions to the Cape of Good Faith. I crossed over the border.
One delivery was to Conques. It was listed as 5 units away. One was to Far Rhodes. It was also listed as 5 units away.
I sailed all the way down the channel to [46, 19] where I had my third delivery to make.
Now the commission says that both of them are 49 units away.
So the first calculations are dead wrong, based on 'as the crow flies' or something.
