In the briefing for the Dagger Class mission, it says "Return to the airlock for evacuation, marked in green". There is a green Drop Point arrow at the north end of the map, but it also has a red Extraction arrow at the south end of the map. When I read the briefing, I had a feeling that something was amiss.
Then I did the mission, split my squad and sent my berzerker and a soldier down the west corridor to get those two relays, while I and another soldier went down the east side to get those three relays, and we met up at the south end, almost at the red zone on the map, with no injuries. I then followed the instructions from the briefing and moved my squad back through the concentration of xenos to the green marker. On the way back north, we used up the last of our ammo and were down to hand to hand fighting just as we reached the airlock. Upon returning to the entry airlock (marked in green), we found no evidence of evacuation markers. I thought "Yeah, just as I suspected, a typical SNAFU" and we started the long process of literally punching our way back through the ever-growing crowd of xenos back to red extraction zone at the south end of the map. Sure enough, when we got there we say the familiar lightning bolt marks on the floor to let us know that *this* was the evacuation area. We evacuated with no casualties, but both my berzerker (Johannes "of the Axe" Magistra, who acquitted himself admirably) and myself were wounded during the unnecessary trip back south.
So now I'm wondering: is this a bug in the briefing, or is it an intentional simulation of a typical military screw-up?
It certainly made the mission more interesting.
