Captain Fluffy bunny, after amassing a fortune on the Javat mining colony set out to apease the house of thulon. As he entered hyperspace a large red hull approached from his aft.
"What the hell is that?"
"Sir it's a Narvidian Hunter"
RIP Capt. Fluffy Bunny
How the heck do I survive a Ship like this so early in the game? I hadn't even had a chance to upgrade my weapons and running sure as hell didn't work against a hull that large for some reason. I should have been able to out run him easily.

yeah i hear that. They are a death sentence early on (impossible to run, impossible to beat). The best thing you can do is try ramming them. Maybe.... just maybe you'll get lucky. Otherwise you will only have a shot later on with a fast ship fully upgraded and high pilot/stealth skills (unless you're a boarder in which case focus on pilot and warrior).

Not sure what to say about this. I suppose we could add a limiter that kept them out of even more turns. They appear in about 1:5000 so they are pretty rare (Narv. Hunters pre turn 10,000) right now.
Part of the reason these ships exist is to make space travel dangerous and frightening. It works for me =)

definitely, it was at just about 65 that it showed up out of nowhere, I wouldn't say keep them out. How about a "miraculous escape message" or "released after painful and intrusive medical experiments" clause until either a certain level or rank. Probably my fault for still being a newb and playing on demanding

year 65 or turn 65? turn 65 would be a bug, year 65 would be a "those damn trans-dimensional mechnicAI"

Some games are meant to kill you. This is one of them. If its too hard, lower the difficulty, that's why the option is there. So a wide range of players can enjoy it. I prefer hard games (well, most of the time) and although dying a lot is annoying, the sense of triumph and achievment when I pull something impressive off is all the more satisfying. As for aliens....well they've handed me my head a number of times, but personally I want to see more of them. I've taken up alien hunting lately and if you think getting whacked by one early on is annoying try looking for one for two or three days before you find one and see how frustrating that is. Ya just can't have it all, can'ya? Haha. At any rate if you ARE going to die in a tragic encounter, it may as well be early on. Nothing like spending a 20 hours getting your ship, officers and upgrades and then dying 2 minutes later. Its part of the game. I find it motivating.

Speaking of, how about a Mad Scientist class that has the main goal of trading records and technology lol.

All I know is that, while Captain Horatio Amadeus may have met his end against an alien hunter, Captain Target Dummy has already succeeded in bringing one down. And don't change the difficulty scale it is great the way it is, something for everyone.

that1guy -- changes to the difficulty system at this point will come in very slow measured steps. I have worked long (LONG) hours on balancing the difficulty levels so I am now adverse to rapid and unproven changes. Like a tortoise, I have slowed. Perhaps this is maturity, but I suspect it is really an advanced form of programmer's laziness.

Oh maybe you misunderstood me. I don't think it needs to be changed. If it's too hard go to a lower difficulty, if it's too easy go to a higher difficulty. And I like aliens; they give you something to still be afraid of.

I play this game way too much. I harass Cory on a near-daily basis with random ideas and questions. I have had more ships on a single captain than most players will have had with all their captains combined. Actually, I have the most fun with a brand new character on impossible difficulty.
I guess this has made me fairly philosphical about character death and starting a new game. I have come to think of a good probing by the Narvidians or any other aliens as a fun story to tell the grandkids about.

Yeah but, look what they did to your face Tenebrous. Thankfully we live in an age where we can surgically implant robotic pieces to repair the damage . Seriously though, I like the presence of aliens. Gives a fun target to hunt .
