Will there be an option of even a one time respec to better take advantage of said game changing class of gear? We are working on a solution for a respec but I cannot give an ETA on when it will be ready. Right now we're focused on Episode 3 and making sure that the new dungeons and AI are exciting and challenging. The new gear types will benefit all builds, it's general purpose enough for anyone to use.

This has been requested and discussed several times and the TB's have indicated they might do it, but you'd have to "earn it" (i.e., it might be the reward of a side quest). I'll be curious to see if one of them posts a more definitive statement.

tenbsmith - we will add repsec to the game, but it is something you will have to earn and therefore will not be able to do repetitively within the same game.

Thanks Fallen and Cory. I didn't see Cory's post before I posted. Fallen, that approach sounds good.

As long as it's not hidden behind content that not every build can take on.
It'd be pretty silly if you're going have players go through an incredibly tough challenge when the whole point of respec is to fix parties to the game's new content.

plunk - agreed, that would be pretty silly Still, its not something we think you should be able to do any time you want.

I'm hoping it will be something related to the story line- like beforeyou enter the Watershed, or after you conquer the Keep and kill the Baron... Some pivotal points in the story could be great points to respec, and then at a cost, perhaps a percent of accumulated gold, or being reset to the beginning of your characters current level or even being degraded a level on some difficulties. Whatever the TB decide upon will be fair for everyone, I'm sure.

Why penalize?
Because the players didn't play through the game once and didn't know better? Because they didn't go to the forums to look things up? The first reason is silly, this game takes a lot of time to play. And the second reason is just horrible game design if the developers punish players for not going on the internet to look things up.
There's no grinding in this game right now so a level loss is felt because that's unrecoverable XP. The game hides a lot of information. And how the game changed a few things in how enemies are designed in Act 1 and 2 means some builds that are incredibly effective in Act 1 are suddenly fighting battles that get monumentally more difficult because the AI drastically changed (at least based on how some posts here indicate that certain builds are much less effective in Act 2)
Why punish players for reacting properly to the game?
If they're going to punish players, they should do it for the right reasons, not because they suddenly throw a curveball and punish players for not reacting to it at the moment.

plunk - thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing anymore. There won't be any loss of XP, etc.

plunk - oh ok. En1gma is just making some suggestions. No need to snap. We like to hear the community opinions from all side and have a friendly conversation about them. Thanks!

It definitely makes sense to make respecing something quite rare on higher difficulty levels, but I hope it would be something you could do easily at lower levels. I would hazard a guess that the majority of players will not play multiple parties through episodes 3 or 4 due to the sheer size and scope of this game. However, for these players (and likely me) it would definitely be fun to be able to see how alternately speced high level characters would play.

I think there should be no respec on nightmare. Or maybe add a night terror setting. Even worse than a nightmare!

Then they should release the next two acts right now so people have a better idea how to design a build effective for the entire game. Because it's incredibly annoying if new content suddenly made huge portions if not entire builds ineffective.
Nightmare is about skilled players, players who can make good decisions on available information, not players who can see into the future and make builds for unreleased content.

samopop - definitely agreed, the cost will be difficulty dependent. I cannot imagine locking out any difficulty from respec.
