Difficulty - Challenging Captain Level - 22 Fencing - 27
Using the same tradition of Big Crew Count that I have used well in Star Traders against Alien ships; I have no problem dealing with these 2 "aliens" of AoP. I have been using a captured War Galleon that has been modified to carry 85 crew and I have been looking for a fight for some time after hearing all the reputation benefits.
Anyhow I finally catch up to one of these rumors at "The Horn (5,4)". I encountered a Ice Demon's Pain Forge. No big deal.... I just advance to board and beat the crap of it loosing about 10 crew. I guess having Galda Fenn helps. Not too long after a Kraken ship and beat it by boarding again, took more damages this time but no big deal. I guess they will be troublesome if you decide to shoot them out with guns or you are at lower levels.
Speaking of the positive reputations.... I got good amount from the friendly powers but the un-friendlies ones did not change much.
Part 2: Gauntlet of Kraken and Ice Demons at Stag Leap I lost count of how many. At least 2 Ice Demons and probably 4 Kraken, all in Stag Leap. Few of them was one after another. Fortunately my War Galleon carries 110 crew normally and those were worn down to the 80s. Reputation for the 2 friendly powers (Cadari + Kaihmer) shot up from around 200 to nearly 500! No change for those who hate me, they hate me just as much.

Time to upgrade off Challenging. Join me on Impossible, become the Right Hand of Poseidon! That is my plan Cory. Let me go Challenging once more. I need to trying finding the balance of staying friendly enough to the 3 major powers first. My idea is to be able to go just about anywhere in the populated sections of the World without resorting to piracy for meagre rations resupply. Forget about the companies for now.....

Latest update : Actually I start a game Demanding using the Shadowsail Cutter as the starting ship as a Swashbuckler. I am into my 3rd ship (Pursuit Brig), all are captured off some "pirates". The Pursuit Brig GREAT running and GOOD tacking makes my upwind climb a lot easier than the War Galleon from before. And yes I am keep all 3 powers content to happy about me. Its easier with Galda Fenn on board to deal with the odd boarding action.

May 5 update: Same captain now at Level 33, almost 14 game years, and 15000 silver in my cabin. Got my 4th ship few years back, a Darksail Cutter all modified to carry 68 crew and 44 cargo. I have Fencing of 42. With the GREAT running and GOOD tacking, upwind climb is no big deal. I encountered some Krakens and Ice Demons near the top left corner of the World, tough fights but survived. With that much silver on board, they will find me usually. Rumors are usually too far away anyway.
Usual tactic: Advance to Board. Forget the guns.
I have defeated these nasties by boarding / dueling at least once: - Champion of Inequity (Ice Demon) - Pride of Horror (Ice Demon) - Sacauathu the Bloody (Kraken?) - Chariot of Rhaggash (Ice Demon) - Rostrak the Maw (Ice Demon) - 2 times within days
My usual way to reload the crew - attack unfriendly ships and Take Crew.
To Cory: I will start thinking about the tutorial thing.

Sounds pretty awesome. We hear from players of AoP all the time that it is very difficult and if you have tips to share ...
