Just got to level 21 on insane with custom starting ship, no hardcore ultra. Is this intentional or a bug?
Edit: just got it now at level 24 on a different planet. Phew. I cant even remember how many captains on insane ive gone through to get this

Very curious question. I have paid the Unlock All with real money. And yet I cannot manipulate the stats of the starting ship that have anything pass 45!?!?! How do you create these starting ships with such high stats??
Game was updated to 5.5.11 yesterday. I guess 5.9.11 is a typo...

Other than the money limit for the starting ship, is there a limit for the different stats? It looks like nothing can go pass 45. I see others post their "ships" after you issue the Impossible difficulty challenge. So I wonder whether they created those as starting ships.

The limits of the New Game Ship Designer are equal to the existing ships. However, within those existing limits you are given unlimited freedom to combine and balance. So I cannot exceed the maximum of 45 for any of the stats? I'm not sure, I will update the help file with the exact maximums in the next update. You cannot increase the stat more than you can drag the slider. That should be pretty easy, right? Drag to right, find max when it stops moving. Drag to left, find min when it stops moving.

Lets not worry about the $$ value. These are the maximum I can get for a starting ship: Hull: 14 Armor: 7 Engines: 24 Sails: 24 Crew: 45 Hold: 55 Guns: 21 Torp: 10 Speed + Agility: Medium I don't expect the maximum for everything on my starting ship but I was hoping that I can excel in couple categories while go cheap on some other stuff. Is this the best the starting ship designer can do??

Is this the best the starting ship designer can do?? LOL, nope, that's just the maximum. I think the best practice is probably in the real Ship Designer, but you can learn a lot from the New Game one too. For example, drop the Hull by 2 and the Armor by 1.

Also, do take a look at the other starting ships when evaluating your elections. That maximums you posted are do "excel" in every category within the framework of the starting ships.

I'm using proguard while I save up for dexguard. Dexguard seem to be really advanced compared to Proguard. I am curious how the result will look like.

Finally I can have this list for reference. I know what I should be aiming for should I choose to stay away from the Ship Designer next time. For a mid-late game ( level 20+) heavily depends on boarding action and long duration, I need to look for a Tiberia Dark, Heroic Carrier or the Omega Cruiser (used that before). The Inquisition Cruiser can do the trick as well. All have to heavily modified afterwards to carry extra crew for those ever nasty Alien encounters!

Don't overlook the wonderous Carnifex Cruiser. There's no better ship for boarding and killing the most terrifying alien monstrosities.
