Ooooohhhh... if it wasn't for travel-time, maybe. But I'm always down for more ports/factions.

The travel time would be the entire point of the big map.
At least, that is what would draw me to keep playing AoP.
As it is, I keep feeling like the map is too small.
The huge map will allow for unique regions, and Captains who sail them.
With that much open water, you can easily play entire games in one ocean

The .xlsx works for me in libreoffice on linux.
Both the .xlsx and the Google docs version just show various accented characters for the wind maps. I assume they show up as arrows or something similar with the correct character set. Not a big deal, if I really cared, i could look in the game and figure out which direction "æ" is, etc.
The conditional formatting for Docks, Lands & Totals didn't make it into the Google Docs. Looks like the .xlsx uses some sort of percentile condition that Docs doesn't support. Looks like a handy condition, too. I just cobbled together something similar in a Doc I made a couple of weeks ago, but it only did quartiles, and took 4 conditions to do it.
The problem I think I'd have with that big of a map is dealing with all the rumors. Even with the current map, I keep hearing rumors from places that would take me ages to get to, and they'd probably be outdated by the time I get there. I hope with a huge map that I wouldn't be hearing rumors from places dozens of sectors away.

you're hearing rumors from the 6x6 area you are in. in the huge map, you'd be immune to rumors (mostly, a few types can get through) from distant 6x6 areas.
great question, thanks for pointing out the issues with the sheet, i think i can fix.

Maybe it is a 32-bit vs 64 bit linux thing, because I wasn't seeing all of the columns with libre office on my 64 bit linux machine.

"uname -a" says mine is "x86_64" so that's not it. Mine's a Ubuntu system (with some Google-specific mods), if that might matter. I'm using LibreOffice 4.0.4.2.

I doubt you'll get as nice of conditional formatting on Google Docs. They recently came out with "custom formulas" so you can do lot more than you used to be able to, but it's still an area where Google's spreadsheets are lacking.

I am in love with the idea of having a map that is too large to explore fully! AoP 4X sounds better and better! (Fingers crossed)

I am using 4.1.4.2 on a 64 bit debian unstable system. So very weird....

Crazy dreams are usually the best. A huge map like that would fit AoP very well. I would love more unique factions and locations.

I would love to see an absolutely massive map like this one, one that you could explore endlessly (almost) and never dock in the same place twice. this game would be perfect for maps that size! Oh the places you'll go... Maps that size could give a pirate palpitations just thinking about the loot.... Arrrrrrr

You could do the same with reputations as well, no? Get hated in one area, then sail away and never see them again unless you wanted to return (with a bigger, meaner ship, of course!)
