Just wanted to say that I love the details on the ship and the visual effect of the thrusters pulsing. Details like that really made me smile. Zoom in on the ships if you can pull yourself from populating every planet you can find.

The ships are awesome. Everything is awesome artwork wise. That being said, maybe different color ships for different faction ships wouldn't be bad. And sometimes on a counter attack there isn't any animation.

And sometimes on a counter attack there isn't any animation. Counter attack animations, and monster animations -- pretty lame right now. That's my fault, not Andrew's. The special effects are done just rigging them up is an on-going effort. The current ship style and phase 1 Vae Victus color scheme is ... just the beginning.

Good luck. Exams never come at a good time for me either. Can't help but think its a conspiracy against students everywhere...

Yeah, artwork is really impressive on these babies. The first time I fired a torpedo and actually got to see a torp fire, the contrail, and impact on the enemy hull my jaw dropped. There is a huge amount of promise in this alpha.

I do agree - making the firing and torp animations was a lot of fun. And I am really happy with how they turned out!

I saw the whole thing, and thought that I was in heaven. Today was a great day for me. Got my driving permit AND the Alpha started!

I noticed there looks like a cloud or some sort of gassing coming from the bow of the ship just before the torpedo launches. wassat? Also, love the flak guns. Exactly what I envisioned and tried to recreate in my own artwork.

Gas/fire/explosion escape from the tubes that the torps launch from. At least that's what I think it is. Like with the Subs and stuff.

It's actually the hyperspace wake. Torpedoes are traveling through hyperspace and are driven via power output from the Ship's Void Engine.
We're still got to get the timing right, but that cloud is warping of the realspace barrier as the hypersonic weapon accelerates.

So basically the hyperspace wake is sort of like a wave and the torpedo is a bit like a surfer? The wake will hit in advance of the torpedo itself? Cool image, very metal! Hey, Xenoscum, surfs up!

The Torpedo is accelerating in a Torpedo Launch Bay on board the Cruiser.
That Torpedo Launch Bay is aligned with the Void Engine's directional field.
The Torpedo is armed and launched inside of the Ship's Void field.
The projectile's Primary Mass enters Hyperspace just inside the Ship.
The Hyperspace Wake is an energy discharge that follows the PM's movement into Hyperspace.
If a Ship sized vehicle could enter Hyperspace, it would also generate a Hyperspace wake.
Think of it like a splash but in hyperspace.
Hyperspace weapons ... That's why in Star Traders RPG you can only Launch 1 Torpedo at a time, even if you have many Torpedo Tubes to hold the projectiles in stasis.
This is also why in RPG, if they fail to materialize inside the target (hit) the HK loops back and returns to your Ship.
