So in the game when you colonize a planet right now it chooses the faction you put down. Is there a way where we can choose what faction gets settled?

Whichever faction built the colony ship gets the world.

I figured the faction is determined by the make up of the population in each colony ship- like transplanting the population of Massachusetts on a planet in orbit of Zeta Reticuli, and New York in the Beta Virginius system.

If you tap on the ship, you'll see a flag in the upper left of the ship info screen. If you haven't plated Star Traders, you'll need to learn the flags.

I know the flags but I did not see the flag in the corner of the ship info. Thank you!

I've played just enough ST to know the flags. Not that I don't like ST, but I tried out HoS and got sucked in, spending all my time on it until yesterday.
