@cory I was on the big map. That helps explain it. I'm working on the AI tonight and tomorrow and I think with 30 or so hours we can convert it from a clumsy, obnoxious opponent into one wit some nuanced intelligence and a difficulty sensitive world outlook.

I'm having similar troubles- sometimes even starting the game in alien territory. And I just can't advance enough to research anything before getting exterminated. Kind of embarrassing on the easy setting. A work in progress, my out of balance stuff in the first alpha, great feedback. Clearly a bigger emphasis needs to be put on the Xeno AI starting location placement ... I re-wrote that system this afternoon. It's now much smarter, difficulty aware and keeps the Xeno teams aware from you and each other. The Xeno AI should be attacking and retreating in waves. They do like to deny you access to a planet and camp on it, that is the Terrox AI. In future phases you will be the option to set elements like aggression and intelligence on your opponents to find a mix that suits you. I have a strategy that works very well: 1: Lure aliens into your own territory so that you can spam your strongest attacks. 2: Focus on one enemy at a time, prioritize weakened enemies first 3: Get in the faces of torpers and try to torp the ones that fire at close range before engaging face to face. For whatever reason, torpers seem less likely to tor at pointblank range and the skirmisher types waste points moving in on your units... and closer to your flying meatgrinders. 4: Cycle cheap fighters and retreat them towards the back of a planet's territory to recover 5: Build at least one carrier that can sit at the back of a fighting force and repair ships, make it fire as little as possible to conserve waterfuel and AP points. 6: Hide harmed units behind planets to mame them hard to hit, as in alien ---(planet)-ship. Torper enemies have to reposition or fire at someone else as no one can fire through a planet. At least, straight through one anyway. 7: ?? 8: PROFIT!

This is my third turn on EASY and look at that single planet fleet. This game is going to be tough. i.imgur.com/IdKz9ms.jpg

Best bet is to torp one at a time from a distance, then retreating. As those kinds have no ranged weapons, they'll waste time trying to get in range. Keep flirting with them until you get a few factories running and see if you can't get a few cheap fighters going. Hopefully you can push them back.

What techs do you need to build a carrier that can do repairs? I haven't figured that out yet.

What techs do you need to build a carrier that can do repairs? I haven't figured that out yet. None as far as I can tell: 1: Ship designer 2: New Ship 3: Carrier 4: Continue as you will, even at lvl 1 stuff. On the Auxillary system screen, repair bays are found in the second slot, not the first.

I've never seen anything in those auxillary system screens. I just built a carrier and I'm pretty sure I looked in the first slot and didn't see anything so I probably never even looked at the second. Some sort of clue that would tip you off to these things would be helpful.

you'll get a pre-designed carrier in the future, so you won't have to design your first one yourself
