Secrets of Steel is in development using the same game engine as CyberKnights RPG -- code name "Storyteller"
Andrew and I had been working on SoS:RPG for several months when we realized it was still many months of content (story, characters, artwork) away. Suddenly it was clear that we were making a mistake by "going dark" for so long. The Storyteller RPG engine needs user feedback just like any piece of software.
So the question became -- how do we build a fast RPG that demonstrates Storyteller but does not infringe on SoS:RPG storyline or features.
The end result is CyberKnights RPG. It uses Storyteller but functions more like Star Traders RPG than it does like SoS. An ideal way for us to test the core software, get more Likes and generally enjoy ourselves while we continue to work on Secrets of Steel.
If you have looked at CyberKnights, you will see that the world map is about 40 zones in a grid. a very simple world map. a all-seeing world viewer (GPS) is also provided to the player.
If you could look at Secrets of Steel, you would see that the world map is OVER 400 zones in a sprawling, meandering maze. a complex, highly developed and biiiiig map. That is just one example but it holds true on almost every dimension -- CK is a little slice of SoS with sci-fi dressing. A little slice we could deploy this summer...
We are making rapid progress and CyberKnights RPG will prove (or disprove) the theories we have about Storyteller's abilities.

Both Cory and I love the futuristic sci-fi genre to death and we will not be able to stop ourselves from working on CK. It means a temporary hiatus for SoS, which will be resurrected when the StoryTeller is ready to tell that story (looking like 2012). In the same vein, if you saw the recent updates to Star Traders and understand our depth of love for that game, genre, and community, you must know that we will not stop developing any of these games.
So! Keep your eyes peeled for future releases and the current games rolling on! Keep feeding us feedback and encouragement, and you will keep getting updates.

We need to roast some more Argblargles and feed the pieces to the mutant emus. Cory and Andrew, you need to set up a donate site so we can help support you in all your efforts <grin>

For whatever reason, I completely blanked on the fact that Fallen is Andrew. Silly me.
It's nice to see you more involved in the community, now that I know who you are! For some reason, I don't recall seeing you much until the last couple weeks.
Or I'm completely retarded. That's possible too, considering the chemicals I get to work with all day long...

@cory - I have lied, cheated, and stolen my way up the Cadar ranks. I'd hate to see all that dishonest work squandered by some silly upstart! *rubs flask of vudka beneath his captain's coat*

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. I hope the fact that I am a die-hard Cadar loyalist will not spoil the company. @hate - lied and cheated? You and I will get along just fine.
Until the last few weeks, I was locked up in the artist studio working on SoS and CK art foundation. Every now and again I would escape and appear on the forum for a few seconds before the swiftly-dispatched bounty hunters tracked me down again.
Very excited to be out and mingling now =}

I had been looking forward to SoS, but it is nice to at least know that I don't need to check android market for it each week! I think my profession finds the swords and sorcery genre safer than SiFi, which I thirst for but am always too cynical of fake science providing worse solutions than those already obvious in real physics!

From our thinking, SoS will be an immensely better game because of the StoryTeller experience we are gaining with CK. We will be sure to be more forthcoming with timelines the next time we start teasers about it.

. . . .Every now and again I would escape and appear on the forum for a few seconds before the swiftly-dispatched bounty hunters tracked me down again. Best capture contract ever! (I think I live nearby, probably why the price was so cheap) -abs
