Is there an upper game time limit before the captain is forced to retire?
We are dealing with humans here after all. Even if seafaring as a teenager, we will get old eventually. Nobody lives forever. If Ice Demons and Krakens cannot kill me; the old age should eventually.

Good question.... I've wondered this myself. Although.... it *would* be cool if, once becoming sufficiently evil, there is a chance of becoming an ice-demon & being eternally damned to sail a wicked ship.

I agree. It isn't like Star Traders with cybernetics and cloning new organs.

Unless we stick the captains in stone.

But there are sorcerers who can extend life. Just as it can drive the industrial revolutions of the nations, it too can drive long life for your captain.
There is no forced retirement age.

In ST you could have all the sci-fi implants essentially making you "Darth Vader". However sooner or later some crazy Alien ship will kill you especially in the higher difficulties.
Lets assume our AoP captains start in their mid-teens. I think 60 years ought to be enough. People in those era don't live too long. Or Level 100 maybe. Whichever comes first.

In Sid Meier's Pirates, it was a major point of the game to find a comely bride. Why not do the same here, which would allow one to pass the black-banner off to Jr?

A man's only love can be the sea. There is no time to think of settling down, not when there are Kaihmer to enslave. Speaking of Kaihmer, in all my years I have yet to see one that looks like a real woman- it is difficult to tell the difference, perhaps they too grow beards... They all have that smell about them, even before I spit them on my rapier.

One would wonder how they even reproduce? Certainly the smell alone would drive a man to cut his nose from his face and feed it to his dog. I would let a Kaihmer dog sleep in my house before I let a Kaihmer woman... The dogs just smell better.

Maybe our captain is like the Dread Pirate Roberts, passing the torch to the next one in line, while keeping the name to instill fear. After all, no one would be afraid of the Dread Pirate Wesley.

Oh yeah, lets enforce a turn-based perma-death ... LOL. That would be popular. I can see the 1 star reviews now. Probably faster to just take the game off Google Play
