What do you think of that idea?

I think I mentioned that one a few posts ago- it would make sense to me, as long as it would be a full cycle that would return to the same place each season. I think it would add a completely new twist to an already interesting dynamic in this game. I'm all for it!

If you do implement this, please consider putting a toast or other notification saying the season has changed. Also it would be great to have a shortcut to the full map wind table if we press on the wind indicator, as this would certainly complicate things.

Great idea. Maybe even minor variation each week but keep the general direction of the season. If there is a storm rumor for the section, the wind pattern can go random in the sector until the storm is over. Essentially this will make the edges and corners more accessible earlier in the game for players who start in the middle of the world.
The wind directions from one sector should somewhat dictate how the wind directions of the neighboring sectors as well. No meteorologist myself but that will make more sense. The wind directions between [1,2] and [1,3] are almost opposite....
As for notification of season change, add a label or something where you are showing the date right now will be fine by me. It has to be permanently displayed. Popup message will be missed.

I put a lot of time into the research that developed the map. It may not be perfect but everything in it is modeled off things that exist. The date is "permanently" displayed ... everywhere so I'm putting a check mark next to that one

I'm not sure how well varying the wind each week would work, as sailing directly against the wind takes 2 days... Winds changing every 4 spaces would be too much, imo...
Remember these are prevailing winds, not changing in real time (I'm assuming) so having an average direction would make more sense in this case. If more frequent changes were to take place, it would be every month, but that would still be too complicated- keeping it to the season would be more realistic and would allow for one to spend time in different sections of the map. This would also make for much different trade routes, you could have a different route for each season. Instead of keeping to one 3x3 section for your route, this would encourage players to explore and keep the peace with different factions than one normally would if you were to never need them.

If we start going for wind change (random or else) just make sure we don't end up having 4 sectors (in a square) have wind that points to the center of the bigger square. That will be truly screwed...

Lol don't change the wind too much in 1,2, Roderick is counting on the winds in the spring to bring him to Stenraner swiftly, mess with them too much and Ruesland will fall

Not sure what is in plan but the seasonal wind change should not be too drastic. Imagine you are having North West wind in winter. When spring comes, I hope it won't overnight becomes South East!!! Gradually change within few weeks is fine.

I would prefer the winds change 45 degrees at a time, would seem more natural to me, but I'm not sure how Cory envisions it- it is his world, after all! Just my thoughts, as I've thought about this concept for a while now...

I would very much like to see variable winds. Adding a small arrow indicator on the hud/menu bar would be sufficient imho. All of the ideas presented so far for implementation of variable winds are quite good. They could also be worked into doldrums/hurricane rumors

Cory- could you please explain the mechanics of the existing Doldrums? I've never actually seen/noticed what they do.... It's it just that winds are very slow, thereby increasing the amount of time it takes to travel?
