Population is the backbone of ST 4x, an asset more than a liability.
My Empire summary a 2.37 AE, Population 25/36 I have a total of 25 population and a total of 36 housing built to shelter them.
Cadar Prime displays population/housing as 5/5 the population bar is a solid color and the rating is 100% It has a Hab Unit II upgrade, and a Chancellery. Cadar Prime has used 8 of 16 upgrade points.
When the population bar is completely solid with a 100% rating does that mean more colonists will not try to settle there?
I'm wondering if the quality of the planet has anything to do with the maximum population it can sustain? Is there a way to predict when the population of a colony will reach it's peak?

I don't know, I've had low quality planets that just went up and up. My record was 13 pop on a 2 quality planet. It started out as a 6 quality planet, but after two World Killers slipped through my net it went down to 2. For a long time it was at 5 but it just kept growing and growing, it actually went up to 14 pop with 5 quality.

Thanks contributor. I think you nailed down the answer for me. That would explain why there are advanced Hab units in the tech tree but they can only stretch so far, and how can you build them without sufficient factories or mines? With the situation you described an advanced mine or factory would not solve the problem. From your experience I realize population can become an impossible situation. When attacked by world killers, I see a message about do you want to evacuate or defend. Have you tried to evacuate? If so what happened? Did it move the population i.e. increase the population of one of your other colonies and lower the population on the colony being attacked at the same time? I'm thinking there is a point at which the colonists realize their imminent destruction, grab their belongings and leave. Perhaps the colony will have to be abandoned and the morale hit mitigated with spice festivals or something else? Edit: By morale hit I mean nearby colonies.

I am working to address it today and it will be improved in the next update.

I’m looking for an answer for the maximum population cap. It’s not as much of a problem for me since I’m only at 7 systems at 3.31AE(yes it may sound like a problem but research is skyrocketing as well as money). But I have hit the quality limit and with me making orbital mines. More and more of my quality goes to population. Although I have a lot of room for people, I need a way to know the general (or exact) limit to a planets population so I can make factories, mines, etc.
