Would it be possible for the colony display to show how many factories are in use out of total factories instead of how many of the population are working at the factories? or is it assumed that if you have 9 factories spaces for the population to work at and you have 11 population then 9 out of 11 will work. Then if you build a factory 2, all 11 population will work and you will have room for a population increase of 1 and won't need to build additional factories.

The display shows Factories to Population (9/11). If there are no 11 Population and 9 Factories, then 9 will work. If you have 12 Factories and 11 Population, then you've got one factory dormant.

Just wanted to toss in my 2 cents, but I think the current system is fine, just might want to tweak it a bit. Instead of displaying "Factories X / Population X" why not have a more simplified "X of Y factories operating?" Just an idea, but it might make that graph a little more understandable at a glance, then you just explain (through the awesome adviser) how 1 population = 1 factory worth of work.

This would be better. Various times I've counted through my upgrades trying to figure out by how much I over constructed factories.

Huh? So totally confused ... why would that be better at all?
That seems like the same data, but stated in a way that hides what is actually going on.

Because we know: Total Population / Hab units Mines / minerals Working Population / total Population
There isn't a way to know how much factories are available. It's changung the bottom bar too:
Working Population / Total Factories
That way you know how much possible cp ypu might have, instead of having the same value twice.

It is listing Active Factories / Total Factories, isn't it. I'll stare at it some more and see if I can figure out what we're talking about here. I am just not seeing it.

So if you have more factories than workers, it doesn't show. You don't know how many idle factories there are.

Well, now I'm having trouble seeing (quickly) if I need to build factories.
I think the reason we had it the other way was to treat Population, Quality and Minerals the same way.

But you always know how many population you have. It's 3 lines up. Population always work at the factory. but if I want to know how many actual factories I have, I have to click on upgrades, count up how many of each factory type I have built and then figure out how many population I can potentially employ.
