In a recent game I researched the Exchange as I thought it was a cool way to generate CP without requiring population. I noticed though that it had "Trade CP" rather than just CP. Does this mean that you still have to have free CP from another colony or you can't get access to them? IE, with an exchange, you can set up a factory-specialist planet, and other planets with exchanges can get access to the CP?

Trade CP is perpetually idle, always generating Income, unlike regular CP which only generates Income when idle.
Empire wide, total Trade CP will set a maximum CP for subsidized Systems, but that feature is scheduled for a future update.

trade CP is what makes some of the upgrades worthwhile. it balances out or even eliminates the maintenance costs,

It also starts to make the Politics do or die for your economy. How so? The value of a Trade CP, unlike a product CP, fluctuates wildly with Political climate. A Trade CP can go up to 300% normal value in good political situations. Normal CP will go up and down only about 25% If you come to depend on Trade CP for Income, and then run into a nasty Solar War, you can suffer (unless you have the EP to clear it.) Basically, if you run your empire on Idle CP, you have one set of problems. Run it on Trade and you have a different set of issues.

Didn't realize trade cp had that big of a jump. so political unrest yields high inflation and without strong industry and jobs to stabalize, the economy tanks.
