Upon entering Frozen Lake we kept to the right. Moving quietly with Tamilin in the lead. Before long we encountered a group of orcin' who attacked aggressively with a warlord in the lead. He was a Juggernaut hard to hurt and able to deal fearsome blows. We held a line between two rough hewed stone pillars for a couple of turns, taking out a couple of orcin. As we stood fought there, between the pillars, more and more Javinlineers emerged, forcing us to retreat. At first a staged withdrawal allowing us to eliminate a couple more orcin. But then, with health low we ran for several turns until we reached a narrow passage near the entrance to the caverns. Here we made our stand. Unexpectedly, many of the Javilineers stayed back--we may stop giving Vraes a hard time for not bathing regularly. In any event, the orcin lack aggression provided us the breathing room needed to heal up party member and allowed to focus all out attacks on Orcin Warlord who advanced alone. After dispatching him we advanced on the Javinlineers, who acted strangely. They advanced on us one at a time and sometimes didn't even bother to attack. After dealing with the few remaining javinaleers, we continued through the caverns on the right side. We encountered several parties of Orcin who behaved non-aggressively, advancing one at a time to be slaughtered and not bothering to attach at times. We took full advantage leaving a trail of corpses in our wake. We eventually defeated a Wolf Lord who was protecting a chest who was also less than aggressive.
After this, we retreated to the campsite in the Glacial Wildlands to rest up. Upon returning to the Frozen Lake the orcin had regained their usual aggressive tactics and we had to proceed more cautiously. There we encountered our first Orcin Berserk. Gargantuan, with a speed that belied his size. This beast descended upon us reigning blows upon the Outlander, nearly killing him. Vraes was only kept alive through the holy intervention of Kyera. The orcin berserk attempted to flank us, but Vraes stepped up to the beast again, ready for more punishment. The Outlander gathered himself and dealt a series of vicious sword strikes, bringing the beast close to death. Then Kyera stepped in and finished the berserk off. We all breathed a sigh of relief.
o.k., I got a little story oriented there, but the AI did seem to be off when I first entered the Frozen Lake. I was playing on Hard.
