Cory Trese, you once said that if you fight off a xeno attack they will retreat for awhile. My experience is that once they start attacking they never quit. In my current game I've got a good distance between me and them and I haven't even ventured into their territory but they just keep coming and sending the World Killers. What is other players experiences. Do you feel the waves?

I have seen the waves at first, but I'm around 9AE, and they just send the ships as soon as they build them, or so I think, since I'm actively taking their planets, all they do is send ships two by two.

I don't see waves neither. At first, if I'm lucky enough to spot one of their planet and keep myself far away from it, they leave me for awhile, but as soon as they launch their first attack, they never stop...

I actually agree with contributor, it seems that the xenos send waves of ships at me every 10 turns or so early game. Once I start pushing into Xeno territory then it seems that they start sending more.. piecemeal attacks against my lines. Speaking of xeno strategy, are there different "personalities" that the xenos can make use of? Like, xenos that tend to send lighter units in larger waves vs heavy units. Aggressive vs. more passive. That kind of stuff?

To have this discussion and all learn something from it, we've got to talk about maps and Xenos. * All the Xeno AI absolutely, 100% attack in waves -- each team cycles into war mode (on Normal) about once a year. * In the first 2 years, beating the Xeno badly will cause them to switch from Aggressive to Defensive. * After the first 2 years, Invading a Xeno world will cause them to switch from Defensive to Aggressive. * To debug the Xeno AI... go to Teams, look at Mode. Mode 2 = Aggressive Attack, Mode 1 = Preparing to Attack Currently there are 8 different Xeno AI, each with a unique attack pattern, ship distribution, territory control strategy and Faction-like bonuses (more money, more XP, faster learning) and a combat preference like torps over melee, etc. You can identify which of the personalities by looking at the name in Teams. Red Zorga and Terrox are totally different beasts. beunsThen we have a serious bug that hasn't shown up in over 10 million simulated turns with the Xeno AI. I have a bit of trouble believing this is the case, but I will keep an open mind and ask for more details. 1) which map did you play? 2) which xeno types did you get? 3) are you sure that two xeno aren't alternating attacking you 4) are you sure you're not antagonizing them by invading or killing ships

3) are you sure that two xeno aren't alternating attacking you 4) are you sure you're not antagonizing them by invading or killing ships #3 might be why they keep coming. At first they attacked at the top of the map, and now they are coming through the bottom, but the top still sends a ship from time to time. Top Xenos might be defensive ATM... #4 is the bottom Xenos' reason for the continuous attack, I'm just taking their planets. If you put it this way, then their attack patterns make sense since I'm dealing with two different Xenos.

Hmmmm, the map I am currently playing on the xenos have not stopped since their first attack. It was all quiet for awhile until I got the "Startraders are reporting xeno activity..." warning. I destroyed their first wave pretty quickly and thought "that should give me some time." But on the next turn more xenos appeared and I have not had a break for about 2 years now. They took one colony of mine and I just counter attacked them, but discovered that I'm not reducing their population even though it says I am, so that's sort of pointless. Is that a bug?
I'm playing on the medium map with 42 planets. The two xenos are Red Zorga and Terrox and they have both bottom corners, though I only seem to get attacked from the bottom right. So I don't know if they are joining up and then attacking, or only one is attacking. If so, when the second two start attacking, I'm dead. Right now they send 2-3 ships a turn and a World Killer about every 6-8 turns and normally a colony ship shortly after that.
Actually pulling up the game now. The Terrox are in mode 2 and the Red Zorga in mode 1.

Yeah, that's the trick -- since all the Xenos ships look alike (for now) if you get them on a rotation, two teams could attack pretty much non-stop.
