Playing the tutorial, find it way too much encounters, about one per second in sailing. Is it my bad luck or is it supposed to be so? Is there any setting to lower the encounter rate?

I played a few hours already, not just a few minutes. It is really annoying as I supposed to do trades in tutorial. If it must be like that, cost of living should be higher, trades should be more profitable.

Not the wind or navigation problem, I'be raised navigation to 9 since the beginning, and I can't be sailing against the wind all the time. Encounter rate is almost always like that, too frequent too be enjoyable. Maybe I'll start a pirate character later to see if a war type will get a more enjoyable life.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep working on it. We are in the process of replacing the Encounters system with one that works more like Cyber Knights, so perhaps that will help.

The encounter rate is driven mostly by the player. Could you try the lowest difficult setting until you get the hang of wind and weather management?

I had the same problem until I pushed sailing and navigation towards 15. Believe I have a thread somewhere about the same thing. But yeah, I agree. It's incredibly annoying unless you megadump into sailing/navigation.

Not sure if there will be any validity to this, but in my experience when you have constant encounters it is because usually a faction is seeking you. Especially when sailing in waters controlled.by said faction and waters that are not in your favor. I play a pirate on hard, and rarely leave my comfort zone with anything less than a naval galleon and some upgrades. To build a comfort zone I do a few comms for the patrolling nation and then loot their enemies. This way most encounters are in my.favor.

Edit: I also encounter opposition frequently. That's how I deal.

That's true Rawrk, but I've noticed this just sailing around Ruesland in Nathaniel Sveet's story as well in the beginning. Yes, I see you Ruesland warship and, yes, I saluted to the last one about three seconds ago (I actually did count by Mississippi seconds and it typically took 3 or rarely five seconds to slam into another encounter with ANY ship), now can I PLEASE cross the bay to sell this cursed hemp??

Give it a shot on a lower difficulty maybe?

Believe it was on Normal. Again, I'm good now but starting a new game on Normal with under 20 navigation... ugh... x.x
