Sorry to be the first noob question on the new board, but can someone please explain/point to an explanation of the hyphenated numbers of each planet for minerals and quality? I'm playing on the elite maps and haven't seen the turn by turn tutorial or know where to find it, thanks for bearing with me...

En1gmaAre you talking about the profit/-maintenance cost? The quality is the amount of upgrades you can have without penalty. So 3 upgrades out of 17. Where 17 is the quality. If you upgrade your mine from mine 1 to mine 3 it still counts as 1 upgrade. The minerals on the planet is the max you can get out if minerals so if you have 16 minerals. You would be better to have 4 mine 4s than 16 mine 1s. Same goes with the other types of upgrades. Hope this helps. Crimson

Is this for the colonization screen?
So a planet with 2-20 quality can have 20 upgrades, but only 2 penalty free? How does this apply for minerals with the same 2-20 rating?

2-20 is the range for the dice roll that determines Planetary Quality and Mineral Count, and it can vary from system to system.

And are the results of these dice rolls displayed anywhere? Is there a tutorial anywhere that I can read all this so I can stop feeling like an idiot?
Lol I've played a ton of strategy games, so once I figure out what everything means I'll be fine... It's just a steep learning phase with all these abbreviations and strange numbers..

I bought Elite last night and tried playing the smallest/first map. Like En1gma, I've played a number of 4x games, so I understand the genre, but I didn't understand enough to make the game work.
The woman from the cover art popped up once in a while to tell me to do something, but that wasn't enough for me to figure out how to play.

If you've decided ST 4X Elite isn't for you, just e-mail me at cory.trese@gmail.com with the order details and I can submit a refund request.

Lol I've played a ton of strategy games, so once I figure out what everything means I'll be fine... It's just a steep learning phase with all these abbreviations and strange numbers.. The first map is the tutorial. In v1.1.3 is is labeled "Tutorial" Read everything that the Tutorial says carefully, skipping it won't help. After 8 advice elements, you'll get some key advice about the "Library" button. We've all played a ton of strategy games, that is for sure. There is a free version of the game, so you can give it a try before you purchase. Thankfully all of the "abbreviations and strange numbers" on the screen are in the Library. If you have any questions, I'm here and available on e-mail at cory.trese@gmail.com If you need a refund, just send me the order details.

Hmmm... I didn't intend to imply the I was dissatisfied with my purchase. Just providing feedback.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to like this game. I'll give it another shot at some point.
I'd definitely be interested in a written description of how to play.

Cory- I've already bought 4x and even if I didn't like it (i love it, by the way) I would never ask for a refund on one of your games. Loyal TB fan you've made here! I was just looking for some clarification on a few things and I overlooked the tutorial map- I'm in the process of going through it now and everything is making more sense to me now that I've gone through most of it Looking forward to making up for my noobishness and killing the $h!t out of some Xenos! I had planned on joining the alpha, but didn't know enough about ST so I didn't feel like I would be enough of an asset to you. Now if you ever decide to do that AoP 4x, I'll be contributing quite heavily on that one! Please don't take anything I say as criticism, I truly enjoy your games and anything I say is meant constructively. If I ever do have an issue, I wouldn't take it up with you on the forum

I'd definitely be interested in a written description of how to play. What do you mean, how to play? Basics like moving ships on the map? Strategic stuff like how to build a trade focused empire? Just trying to make sure we're thinking about it for upcoming releases.

Once I get version 1.1.3 loaded, I'll try the tutorial and give feedback after that.

I'll admit now, I'm no 4x tactical genius, but if you guys ever want a hand making an in-game manual (like in ST) I'd love to lend a hand with the writing side of things.
