Out of curiosity. On the various sizes and map configurations, are the locations of the star systems fixed? If I have 10 starts, am I going to find the locations identical?

From my experiences, yes.

In that case, someone from the developer should just dump the graphics of the maps along with starting locations. I was hoping it will be randomize along with a setting that we can control the density of the systems. Let me throw this into the wish list.

That is accurate at this time.
Where the variation occurs, and its a big variation, is the quality of the planets, the unpredictable politics, and of course the xeno.
IMO, this is comparable to early startraders. politics and how to make money off of politics was super important.

For me I like to see a map setup where the systems near the player's start can be closer together. You can have quicker expansion where Colony ships get there in 3 turns as opposed to 10 turns. The defence will be easier when all the colonies are close by. There are so many things you need to build, space fleet is not among the top priorities.

IDK, some of what makes this hard is the space between worlds on some maps and how it does make it harder to defend. there are certainly maps that give it to you both ways. but i hear you and agree that it would be nice for truly random maps. one of y favorite things about MOO was huge maps and 2 aliens....except when the spawned in the net system over

Xeno spawning locations and planet quality are randomized.
Star location and player starting point are not.

Xeno spawning locations and planet quality are randomized. Star location and player starting point are not. Maybe we can put the graphics of the maps in this forum that will show the Star Locations and starting points. Personally I am looking for the map that the Star Locations are close by the starting locations. As in my old Civilization playing days, I like the idea of creating a close knit power base before expanding out.
