Just wondering if at some point a planet could have planetary defense fighter support? I see now that the strike fighters are essentially small. Interstellar starships. These wouldn't go any farther than high orbit or to any nearby satellites and are close range Barrier Combat Air Patrol defenses for intercepting space based aggressors around the planet so no artwork required.

Yeah, i can see the similarity, static defenses are unmanned but must be strategically b placed in numbers to cordon a sphere around the planet. So would take more resources than fighters. Fighter squadrons provide a more localized, concentrated defense, and would probably be cheaper to purchase but be more costly to maintain over all than orbital defense satellites. Expanding on the satdef theme would be an early warning sensor network that warns of an incursion so many squares away.
