In an effort to keep the Let's Play thread clean and useful to folk, I have locked it and created this commentary thread. Here is the thread with the helpful videos! startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/8335/star-traders-empires-play-seriesFeedback welcome, as well as suggestions for chapters or focuses. Chapter 2 will be entitled "Expanding an Empire". Each one is hopefully about 20 minutes.

I bloody well hate two things in this galaxy; Independants and Xenos.

I was fascinated to hear you pronounce rychart, as I always thought it was more "Rai-chart" great series though, thanks for making it.

I think my main question is what determined your transition from habs to factories - turn or population? You got some really lucky anomaly results, if you hadn't do you still aim for 6 habs, or is it 5 habs min as long as yours pop +1, or is it just as many add possible for those first 7ish turns, etc? What's your criteria for switching to factories other than the tech finishing?
This may be answered in the next video, but from this point when do you add another hab? When pop hits cap, or sooner?
I'm also curious - how different are those first 20 minutes if it's CT playing?
Also, any reason for the order you colonized in?
Another question - is there a minimum quality or mineral roll for your core worlds that will make you restart?

Is it better to begin colonizing right away, or to spend a few turns traveling across the map to spread out the Primes?

rithas - I think the difference between Cory and I will come in the next 20 minutes. I think he'd play a very, very similar first 20. Subsidize, hunt anomalies, build habs until you have 5 or 6 population. At that point, my preference is to stay 1 ahead or on the line - depending on the Colonies' CP output. If I can put up a Hab in a turn or two, I don't worry too much about it, but that it is a person decision. En1gma - colonize immediately. Try to set all 3 Hives down over the first 3 turns.

Great video and so excited for the little tips that you can glean from the commentary.
Two things that I hadn't realized before watching were: - Ships in faction space don't require maintenance from income. - If you don't tap on a world with your explorer it's not added to your star chart.
Now that I'm starting to figure out how ship maintenance works and is represented in the UI, I feel like I'm in a much better economic position to launch incursions into Xeno territory and feel better about the game as a whole too.
The star chart thing was probably mentioned in the tutorial but I didn't catch it and couldn't figure out why some planets I scouted stayed on the map while others disappeared!
Again, these were probably communicated but I didn't pick up on them. I've got some more thoughts overall but I'll find a first impressions thread to post in. Great job as always!

Fallen, could you please add the link for the videos on the thread, like this we could easily send the link to friend? Actually if we could directly access the video from the menu of st4x it could help a lot of people in my opinion. Ps: the new blue-xeno art are really cool

eltoreador - the OP has a link to the Let's Play thread which includes all the videos. We are talking about inserting them into the game's library or main menu someohow.

Ok, thanks! I recommended the game to a friend (on ios) but he had a lot of difficulty to play (to try with the old ios version don't help). Very good work, see you!

Timeline on part 3, 4 ??
I have limited experience with this type of game, so need to see a complete game as a starting point for me...
Cheers! Alize

xalzx - I am hoping to get back to a chapter 3 next week - ship design and starting a war. I am currently trying to figure out whether to use some time lapse or just play the entire game, which will be multiple hours. The farther I get into the game, the less easy it is do focused "lessons" as the first two chapters were without time lapse.

I personally hate time lapses on videos especially if they're meant to be instructive, but I see that they can be necessary due to time constraints. Plus it could get very repetitive. Maybe a short summary of what happened in between, any other problems that came up, and how you dealt with them could be helpful.
