I have recently had to re-install Start Traders Elite, but found after doing so that all my captains are no longer there. Many hours spent getting them to the levels they were and now nothing. Is there a way to retrieve these captains?

Phew, I have just managed to restore this application successfully and now have all my captains available again. Was a bit of a shock but all is good in the world now.
On a side note, will there ever be an option to save your captains to avoid this worry?

I cannot answer your question, sorry.
Would you care to explain your fix in case someone else should need the answer to your original question?

Sorry, probably should have said.
I use MyBackup Root to keep a backup of all my apps and associated data on my SD card, after that is done I copy the backup file to my laptop. Because I had to format my SD card to allow an installation of a custom mod, I ended up losing the backup and forgot about the copy on my laptop.
So all I did was copy the restored file back to my SD card and run MyBackup Root to get all my apps, settings and data back. Until, or even if, there is an option to save our captains I will continue to do so.

ST RPG has no permissions and was not created with a "sharedUserId"
To enable "Save Captains" code I need to add a permission. I am afraid to do that.

Why is that cody? Do permissions cause trouble?

Why is that cody? Do permissions cause trouble? An app with too many permissions worries people, and with good reason. I read an article recently claiming that 20% of a randomly chosen selection of apps from Android Market have malware of some kind, usually spyware - the makers of the spyware say "You were explicitly asked to give us permission to spy on you, and you said yes; if you didn't want to be spied upon, you shouldn't have given us the permissions". However, sufficient permission to save the game state to permanent memory doesn't seem too dangerous, and I'd gladly give that permission, if it were asked.

I can see that. Im all for permissions that allow game saves.

Would it be possible to create a supplementary app with the permissions you need separate from the game or does the Android system not allow that kind of interaction? If you could create a utility separate it seems like that would negate the possible worry by people downloading the game. I would say maybe a link to the app page inside the program but since the patent trolls are out in force suing people for hyperlinks, that might not be the best plan either I guess.

accidic -- there is a function called "sharedUserId" that would allow me to create a separate Android application that shared the database and held the permissions. Cyber Knights RPG will have one of these that will work with Elite. Due to my ignorance as an early Android developer (I never thought anyone would like ST) I did not worry about such things as "sharedUserId" when I created ST and Google will not allow you to add it after the fact. So, developer fail. I am still searching for solutions
