12 new xeno ship types?! So now there's 16 enstead of only 4?! Correct, each with different attacks, damage, armor, move speed, AI type, radiation damage, resistance to torps/boarding/gun attack.

If I had more time I would have put in some effort to describe my experience from the point of view of an ST captain or syndicate general as I was in the middle of a game when this update happened...
I began a normal game against 2 aliens as usual, successfully expanding as fast as I possibly could and defending from the xeno onslaught, eventually down to my inevitable, paralytic economic depression when political conflicts arise (maybe from overextending). After two solar wars I was quickly neck deep in debt. Actually, the first one was already killing me right away, it didn't seem to get much worse after the second one. Luckily the alien offense had slowed down, but I was still a goner at this rate. Out of desperation I destroyed my 4 bombers (that I had earlier used to crush 2 alien planets that were within three spaces of my border worlds), and whoa, salvaged each for more than twice what they were worth! I managed to hang on for a bit longer after buying as many mines as I could, but I couldn't last as the aliens came back after I unintentionally provoked them... That's where I was when the new update struck. My economy was now not completely dead, and more noticeably, the xeno became a lot less aggressive. Most noticeably, clicking on alien ships revealed which team they were on, huzzah! I was a bit disappointed by this feature being removed though:
Earlier I noticed the "mode" and "count" listings on the xeno summary (when you go to that team list page), and began monitoring them from time to time. Lo and behold, these turned out to be what Cory mentioned before about alien migrations and attack patterns! Mode 2 was their attack phase, and after exactly 50 turns, they automatically switched to mode 1, when they would stop and withdraw their ships. They would still send 1 colony ship right in front of my vanguard, and I found out the hard way that killing this would trigger the switch to mode 2. My interpretation is that this is an evil trap concocted by some radical alien war hawks to spark another massive in...

I'm thinking that with how big the game is, having the option to have the library fully available would be awesome. Even if it's just a pregame only thing.

@guest - the raw information about the aliens was removed, but will later be attainable through in-game actinos.
