Could someone please give a brief description of the boarding mechanics and how it would benefit combat.

Boarding weakens enemy ships in such a way that they are easier to kill for Torpedo and Gun attacks.

Does it weaken them to the point to where it's worth the cost of producing ships that specializes in boarding?

Same question applies to Selen or any curse based character in our games. Is it worth it? You have to answer that question yourself.

Is there any possibility at present, or in the future, of being able to board the ships and salvage xeno technology. I imagine this would work better as bonus RP, in the same way as anomalies work, rather than a free technology like in Civ (Sorry Cory, I know you hate Civ comparisons, but it was the seminal 4X series). This could also be implemented if you conquer a planet. Perhaps using a system similar to DV in CK, whereby the more tech you already have (possibly based on total RP spent) the less chance of finding anything novel.

I was actually thinking about what would happen if one got minor (10-20) credit bonuses for xeno ship salvage Also, it seems boarding would be most effective against world killers, which has lots and lots of health

Great suggestions - both RP bonus and Credit bonus would match ST RPG very well (Artifacts & Credits).
