After starting to play on the bigger maps i now start finding the late game a bit tedious. It feels like i cannot lose (?) although it will take forever to take out all the alien planets. In my current game i am currently on +700 income in spite of having a big invasion fleet parked on alien territory, and with solar war-trade war-spy war as current politics things likely wont get too much worse. I also have a healthy 50k stocked up and adequate defensive fleets on all systems bordering on the aliens.
Is there any challenge i have yet to encounter or should i just consider this a win and move on to a new game?
Edit: New game of ST4x i mean ofc
And more generally, is this inherent in the game? Late game being more or less a walk in the park if surviving the early onslaught..? I found that to be the case in Starbase orion, which got a bit boring on the larger maps..

What game difficulty are you playing on? Normal or harder?

Normal. Would there be a late game difference after building up a sufficient income, tech and fleet and having started grabbing planets from the aliens?

Try a higher difficulty. I'm currently on crazy with a 2k income, 150,k in the bank, and an armada sticking it to the xeno filth.

That sounds like quite the fest chronic! I dont think i could accomplish that, but at least now i've switched to hard. The question at hand though - do you think there is any risk of you loosing your current game?

There probably isn't past the midgame hump. Unfortunately, that happens in a few of the TB games-- in CK and ST, most memorably. Once you got around level 20-30, you just rofl-stomped everything and rarely lost unless you did something inexplicably stupid (like forgetting what factions you aligned yourself with...). Sounds like CK will be getting some kind of boost with a tough new area one day though!!

Definitely. One of my planets has lost quite a bit of quality and this has impacted my economy. And getting this far really just consists of non aggression until you're absolutely prepared.
