So i have just started the game and got some of the basic stuff done but have a few questions.
1.So after i got my first colonies set up with the upgrades i was wondering what kind of ships i should make and what else i should do with those colonies.
2.So i got an alert about the Xeno and heard people discussing then but what are they? Should i be worried? I never played Star Traders so i have no knowledge about except thag they are assholes.
3. Should I expand my empire for now?

If you're hearing Xenos, you're really hearing "Angry-man-eating-aliens-with-too-many-ships are looking at us on the galactic menu". They hate all life and want your total annhilation. They stay aggressive for 50 turns or so, so you best be getting some ships together and get some treaties going so you'll be able to handle a long war. Expansion is really a matter of preference (I'll do it when my pops around 5 or 6, then send out a colony ship from each faction, work on them, etc...), but if you feel comfortable, branch out. Just don't put it in the middle of nowhere; if it gets attacked out there it'll eat your resources sending fleets on a long journey out in the middle of nowhere... (think: supply lines)

Best to build your economy first, only ships to build is colony ships. If you check the "all colonies" screen you get advice on what to build. 2. If you got an alert of the kind "star trader captains report xeno activity" it means the aliens are now in aggresive mode and will attack if they've found you. Their starting ships arent too rough, stay close to your planets (green) when fighting to get refuel/repair and you'll have the advantage using your starting ships 3. Yes! Build up your economy, follow the advice you get, and try to colonize more systems!

Oh yeah I also got some questions about the factions. Do they fight against each other all the time and how do they fight

When fighting overwhelming hostiles think of counterattacks - you want to attack their missile ships w cannons, and their other ships with torpedoes. Same when you get attacked, position your ships accordingly. Your templar ships have both types of attack, use accordingly, and make use of your ability to move around green spaces and hiding behind star/ships to protect those most vulnerable.

Should i be worried? I never played Star Traders so i have no knowledge about except thag they are assholes. 3. Should I expand my empire for now? Caveat to the answers above: In the tutorial mission, the message will say either "Xeno activity has reduced" or "Xeno activity has increased". Increased activity means you are about to face an assault from the xenos -- they will swarm you with large numbers of cheap ships coupled with 'world killer' invasion transports. Those last should be your priority target, as they will damage your planets at best, at worst they will take them over and convert them into alien colonies. "Xeno activity is reduced" means that the aliens are going to cease aggressive action if they are already aggressive, and otherwise will consolidate on their existing worlds without expanding -- I think. This is GOOD news. Take this time to build up your own empire. Note that attacking Xenos is a good way to trigger increased activity. So it's best to leave them alone unless you're ready to launch a major offensive of your own. As in, taking planets away from them. Note that in order to harm a xeno colony in ANY WAY you must research planetary invasion, which is under about starship construction 5 on the tech tree. I'll repeat this : Without a military transport, you cannot harm an alien colony in any way. The most you can do is orbit the planet and destroy any ships that take off from it. When you do finally get this capability, you are going to want multiple invasion ships, as one ship is not enough. The Xenos are quite fertile and will add one population to their planet every turn. So if you want to conquer the planet (reduce population to zero), you are going to need at least 4 invasion transports to reduce the planet in anything like a reasonable timeframe. With less than 2 you won't make any headway at all. Another option is to sterilize the planet, turn it into a dead world, which is done by reducing its quality to 0. A dead world cannot be colonized either by Xenos or by humans. There are three invasion options: Scout has a lesser probability to inflict damage but never harms quality. Invade is balanced, having a high probability of damaging population and a low probability of damaging quality. Bombard has a very high chance of damaging quality and I'm not sure how it works against population. Destroying a planet is fairly easy: Population regenerates but quality does not. If you want to capture the planet you're better off going for the full 8 transports, completely englobing the planet, and scout it until it is captured. Mixing with invasion usually means you'll be left with a planet of about 3 quality, almost useless save as a gas stop. Respectfully, Brian P.

Information in the answer above is relevant to v1.1.13 but not 1.2.x series builds, just FYI =)

*Puzzled*
Double-checking the google play store and the boards above suggests that 1.1.13 is the latest build released as of 26 JUN 2014 21:01 EDT. So I guess this is a patch you're currently working on?
I look forward to it when it comes out!
Respectfully,
Brian P.

Actually, pendell is right on about 90% of the stuff in his post. v1.1.15 (next release) slows down Xeno population recovery and makes quality damage slightly less likely. It also boosts FDF defense ability to avoid damage to your planets. v1.2.x, which is coming next week, improves invasion and gives you better options than "8 MT doing Scout" His advice is really sound and following it I just defeated the Xeno on Insane difficulty setting. One thing about Quality 4 "gas stop" worlds is they quickly convert to Independent worlds (who wants a radiation wasteland?) which can give you some good buffer against Conflicts and Xeno attacks.
