Hi everyone, first post here.
Do app updates affect previous version's saved games? Or do I have to start a new game to play updated features?

blackwing13 - welcome to the forum! Updates are as backward compatible as we can make them. I'll give two examples: 1) We added some techs and improved economic game balance. All of your games will get this bonus. 2) We modified the AI that is used in the tutorial map to make it easier. If your game was started before this update, its using the old AI. If you're having a really hard time in the tutorial map, a new game would help. So generally, you are good to go!
