So I'm in the Vermin Warren on Hard slaughtering Ratkin left and right. I get to this section that looks like a warehouse and right before I go in I get into a fight with 7-10 enemies. Kill them... use convenient camp thats near last Ratkin. I rest up... literally one tile away... boom... another 10+ ratkin fight. So I'm like ok... I won't be exploring this warehouse. 20 mins later... fight over... didnt use a potion so i figured that camp is still convenient as I'm less than 10 tiles away. So I rest up... stand where the last ratkin fell... and we're back to fighting. Totally killed my exploring moment.

abysmal - sounds strange. Can you provide more details or a series of screenshots?

I've had that happen to me as well- that huge long fight uphill with all the choke points and vantage points for the archers and shamans? I always thought it was a trap to punish people who didn't choose to go back to Oska before continuing. It would be that point you could climb up that's right next to the rest area at the top before you go back south, fallen. I don't have screen shots, but it's pretty consistent on my HTC one 4.4.... Just go past the climb point and between it and the rest point there is a fight... however I haven't had multiple fights in the same exact few squares... there are a few fights that stack up if I keep going forward that are within 12 squares of each other once you start going south...

Yea...
It was in the area just before the Great Shaman. Right before I saw camp there were about 10 ratkin and 2 giant rats. I fought... hit the camp... took another step... and then a very similar fight. So... retreated... camped after winning... at the hallway before you go into the Great Shamans alter room, another identical fight (this one was even weirder... giant rat was on the stairs leading to the door... it would not move. Had to use Kyera to snipe the ratkin archers and Selen/Vraes to tank the shamans).
The enemy configuration was: 2 Giant rats 2 Veterans 2 Shamans 3 Archers 3 Warriors
I swear it was like I never killed them.
They stayed down though after round three. Then I fought the Great Shaman for his three rounds. What's up with three?

In that section there are just a ton of groups. I think five between fight at the top and the Great Shaman stairs sounds about right. That's his army, makes killing him that much easier.

That entire fight (bottom to top to bottom) is probably my favorite hour of the game so far. Nothing like some sustained carnage to get the blood pumping!!

Come to think of it, the Great Shaman was kind of a wuss. I was actually worried I had some kind of weird enemy respawning after I camp bug.

in similar frustration in episode two when the party is ambushed by orcs during the attempt to rescue the family diplomat My team always dies after the first turn ALWAYS. Full health with buffs to dead. I have given them all the buffs I can, and I can't run away or force the party to only engage one side of the trap because the orcs are too close and too powerful so all gazillion orcs get their hits in. Its even my damage sponge fighter who's dying on the first turn sometimes. Somebody always dies. Am I just unlucky, are the orcs overbalanced or did I just not properly level up my peeps? We were pretty potent up until now. We've died over two dozen times in the attempt on normal difficulty. When you restore, you don't get your money back from potions puchased so my team is broke now too so we can't further upgrade equipment.
Help! the game isn't fun anymore so I haven't played in months except just now to see if I can get past them again. Nope.

gamerindisguise, that's rough. That fight is beatable. Somehow I managed to pull it off with no deaths on my first time through. That hasn't been the case every time though. If you're not getting initiative and they're getting killed every time then I don't know what you can do. I always had to run and reposition. There is a back corner to the right and a cave that has a 1 tile bottle neck on the left. I would recommend getting to those as quickly as possible. But if you're out of potions and money then that group might be stuck.

gamerindisguise - I am sorry to hear you've gotten stuck in that spot. Sounds like a nasty dead end to the group. I will give you my best advice on how to squeak through that fight with a group that is stuck. In the map, loop all the way around so that you are north west of the battle zone. You have to fight your way around and cross the river to get there. When you've cleared that path, go camp, come back, pre-buff and walk in from the north west. Go slowly and stick close to the northern barricade. As soon as you get a turn, retreat. The main mass of the Orcin will be far enough away that you can hopefully tackle the first wave before the second group arrives. You MUST use -AP curses if you are struggling here, even if Kyera only has Level 1 Ethereal Anguish, use it, its dynamite against Orcin who have few but powerful attacks. Don't let them get a big group surrounding you, retreat all the way to the ford if you need it. I hope that helps, and please let us know!

gamerindisguise - I have also tweaked the map a little to make the direct approach from the south more manageable. You'll get a few more hexes between yourself and the Orcin this way.

gamerindisguise, the first couple of times I sent a group in there I had the same thing happen. I started a new group with a little more thought in terms of allocation of points when leveling up and I've enjoyed replaying the early part of the game. It is significantly more polished than it was a few months ago.

sorry for the delay. Good advice all of you. Lurker and fallen's helped out with my approach. I don't generally enjoy replaying games so restarting was a participularly galling option to me. I want a story with gameplay. So rereadng and hours of slogging to get back to where I started was going to shelve the game forme. Thanks again guys. I made it through. And now I've got somecool gear and more buffs to survive future battles.
