Cory & Andrew, I have some specific, reasonable wishes for 4X I'll post but I thought I'd start with my ultimate wish. I share this only because I believe you guys could pull it off. Since you've created two levels of play in the same universe, which I love. Here's what I'd love to see. 4-5 levels of turn-based games (either within the same game or across several games) in the Star Trader universe. 1 (top) level is 4X. 2nd level is ST. 3rd level is planet-wide ground & air confict/invasion, resource building - some hybrid of Panzer General and Civilization.(it occurs to me that game mechanics under the hood could be very similar to 4X just with different background, objects, art, etc.) 4th level operational level tactics ala Steel Panthers. and 5th level squad level tactics/RPG ala Heroes of Steel in sci-fi setting (I know Templars is kind of this, but I'd like a more open Heroes' of Steel style game, too). While I'm wishing: between the 1 and 2nd level I wouldn't mind a more tactical space fleet game ala Harpoon in Space but that's just icing on the cake.
One of my favorite games of all time was Emperor of the Fading Suns, a computer game based on the paper & pencil game which was definitely not to everyone's taste. I loved it because it was turned based, included literally everything in the sci-fi kitchen sink at every level from star system to ground unit/geo-political dynamis, and created a slowly building epic, empire-wide story every time you played it. That's the kind of game I'd like you to make even if it encompassed several games.
OK, now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's talk about the games I'd love you to create in other settings
Thanks for the gift of yourselves, as always. marc
