captain nemoI just finished updating Vraes Phalanx Shield on the talent table. Really is a great upgrade! If you use it in combination with Vincent's Frigid Air, I think Vraes can become virtually impervious to ranged damage, should be a big help with the hated Krete Archers. Vraes likes to "Charge!" into archers now he can, there is also an increase in Parry to offer more protection against melee damage and help compensate for the other Leadership driven talent Berserk Rage, coupled with Kyera's Warders Shield could be a very viable tactic. I wish my current group Vraes had this, the next one will.

fallen, Does the new Phalanx ability block all ranged attacks magical and missicle? Now I've gotta decide whether I'm gonna pick up my old Leadership Vraes group or start a new one. I made some mistakes assigning AST points on that build.

Well the good thing is that at your next talent level you can pop a point into PS and you get the best minmax benefit. The better thing comes from having a viable & efficient alternate to Mastery in the early levels.
Yes, yes, yes, there are other workable builds, but until now nothing has been as efficient in providing +damage output & +damage reduction (not getting hit >>> reducing hit damage) as Mastery.

I agree that Mastery is arguably the best Talent for Vraes, and hard to not include. You could, but why?

.... I'm torn about NM. It is an amazing talent, no doubt. But in some builds it isn't necessary for me- I.e. my Iron Curtain build. If I use it at all it's only if I'm going without curse support and need all the accuracy I can get. V is more than able to defend himself with SSk and the new and improved Phalanx... Maybe it's difficulty dependant, but for me it's easy to not use Mastery with many of my builds. Besides it only adds weak dice and I would rather have the strong dice granted by extra parry that Phalanx provides. Just my style however- best part about this game is we can take so many paths to end up at the same place.

NM is critical for my 2H builds, where Phalanx isn't an option.

It may be weak dice, but it is still weapon skill and beat the old PS all day long unless you want pure ability to take hits and don't really care about Vraes as a reliable damage dealer. A long ago Easy party discovered that when I was having to burn mana for Sweep faster than for any other character to try to kill stuff....but with Mastery, Vraes just moves along, using the base attack almost exclusively and hitting for solid damage all the time.
The biggest thing for me is the increased viability of Wizard-Paladin parties since they take LOTS more damage from everything, but especially archers. Fyona as a damage dealer? Ha Ha, it is to laugh. Sure, I see lots & lots of potential, but until the gear and/or skill set gets good enough, it's not reliable yet. New PS, oh, it looks so much better than expected.
