And the thread shall rise from the ashes.
Hope everyone had an awesome holiday season! With the holidays often comes music, what did you decide to purchase or were given to listen to?
Most notably for me is the last Viza album, Aria. I'm a gigantic fan of System of a Down, and Serj Tankian's work, so this band is right in my wheelhouse. They're energetic, deep, and way beyond their own time as far as their album and their other works are concerned. Anyone looking for something different, but altogether awesome should seriously check these guys out.
Another great buy was Volbeat's Beyond Heaven/ Above Hell album. They sound like Elvis joined an awesome metal band. These guys are crazy-riff heavy and a ton of fun to listen to.
Your turn.

Over the past few months I've picked up Knife Party's new album, enjoy EDM Trend Machine and Superstar (oh my god, what happened to the dubstep?).
Also grabbed Avantasia's latest album which I didn't know was released until a few weeks ago. Looked back on a few of the guest vocalists that they have, liked what I heard from Within Temptation, grabbed their latest album, saw that Howard Jones was on it, then got Killswitch Engages new album, noticed he wasn't on it, got Devil you Know's album.
Discovered Royal Blood by seeing them on Late Nite with Seth Myers. Checked the web for similar sounding artists, found Death From Above 1979.
Los Campesinos released a Christmas EP. I absolutely love those guys. Probably my favorite buy of 2014. If you haven't heard of them, definitely check them out.
Even though those posts are a few months old, on the topic of napalm, Dump the Clip by Army of the Pharaohs had a super sick verse by Celph Titled that always brings a smile to my face. More people need to flow like these guys.

I've been listening to Steve N Seagulls. Redneck covers of classic metal tracks (Holy Diver, The Trooper etc.) Great fun, tongue-in-cheek but with real talent behind the performance.

I found this crazy awesome Icelandic Metal band Amon Amarth.
I'm not always a fan of metal because you can't understand a word they're saying. Not so with this band- the guy is awesome and so is the music. Epic battle music, mixed with fantastic mythology (think Thor coming down to earth to battle hoards of enemies)
One song starts with a very graphic disembowelment, where you can hear guts hitting earth. I don't know if it gets more metal than that.

En1gma you might like Iced Earth then. I like their two Something Wicked CDs the most. Giving them a listen again now. Haven't listen to Amon Amarth, but one of my cousins liked them quite a bit about five years ago, probably still does now. I'll check them out now.

But, as much as I think Matt Barlow is ok, I really love Tim Owens on The Glorious Burden and Something Wicked Part 1.
