It takes a few tries to get the ship designs right. Can we save them for future games?
In all games it is usually at least 5 yrs before I decide to seek out the xenos actively. Usually the science researches were done along the same order in all the games. So most likely I'll have what it takes to build those ships. It will save me at least 5 mins if I can just load up an old design. If my technologies are not there yet, just disable those old designs.

I will add that request to the roadmap, but it will be very difficult to get into the game because each saved game stands alone and is self-upgrading with new versions.
Might even be impossible, but I logged it as 4X - RFE #2557

I'd say the 'best way' is to have a mental framework for the designs, and then use the self-filtering and sorting lists to create new ship designs that match your current game. A strategy, instead of rote copies, is more effective. This is the same lesson I've taken from Stars!, Space Empires and Galactic Civ. I did understand the original request, and if it is possible we'll do our best to add it. I wouldn't try to "write down" the design so much as I would try to understand what the design was, so that I could recreate the theme and effect of the design with an appropriate technology set for the new game, which is of course, going to shift compared to the other game, making the process of copying designs (even if it was available) far less effective than understanding a good strategy.

I don't know if this is something I would use... On the surface it seems logical, and at first I was into it. Thinking about it over the course of the day I changed my mind. There are only so many ship types and they can only have the same style weapons on them, just different weapons of each type. If you know you want a carrier that uses rail guns, then it gets outfitted with the best weapons you have currently, same with armor/crew/etc. There are thousands of combinations currently, and I think to be able to save each and every one of them would be redundant. You won't always be in the same place in terms of research, so there would be a ton of designs greyed out until you unlocked every single reactor/weapon/shield/pod/etc.... Just my two cents

Many phones have note and memo features or apps available that you can switch to in the middle of the game, but you'll have to be careful not to do so much other stuff that the cached RAM for the current game turn doesn't get wiped. I don't keep notes for games, but I find this useful for many other purposes. It might be kind of tedious to type out everything in the phone, though, so I do agree that it's good to keep the strategy in mind so you can pick out the same or similar parts for your ships. This lets you have a lot more flexibility depending on the situation at hand, like when exactly they start attacking you and how hard.
