The suffering of Ironman Nightmare. No one quite knows why we go back into the fray, but we usually do. When I first started, I was playing too fast and I lost 3 groups in Red Hill. I was so angry at myself for being an idiot.

Finally killed the Shaman. Kinda anti climactic, Vraes was just standing there tanking a Deathkin and 3 or 4 Veterans and the Shaman. I did run through my supply of those 40-80 SP potions. I definitely could have played that battle better (hiding in a corner would have cut my potion use) but it just hilarious seeing Vraes shrugging off all those blows.
Uppping Eternal Anguish is a huge SP sink, I don't think the Dodge and Accuracy debuffs really helped, the AoE was a waste since Kyera always had AP to spare with Vraes not needing healing every turn. Definitely should have kept it at 1 and saved whatever spare Talent points that didn't go into Tears until I had enough to upgrade to the -2AP effect and just shoot straight to it.
Anyway, Stoneskin is just ridiculously broken. The "first" Great Shaman plinking for 1 damage was just a lol moment.
49.5m and still going

8. All of Vraes Talent Points go into Stoneskin, though I hold off spending if it drives the SP cost beyond 3 uses/rest. Gave him all the SP gear too.

Lol, yes, at that point in the game having SS 8 will pretty much define his survivability and utility to the team

That's allot of Stone Skin! I usually try to balance defensive skills, but that sounds like fun!

Wouldn't splitting those points between SS and Phalanx be more effective...not to mention cheaper?

Bigger max HP is a huge cushion in battles.
Also ranged attacks rarely break 30 damage. And at times hit for single digits, which is as good as a miss. Vraes has yet to drop below 100 HP. Even <200 is rare, usually when he loses a little less HP than what Kyaera can heal so I don't bother having her heal him and he's surrounded by a bunch of enemies.

plunk - the only way to really balance this out would be to put limits on the Talent level you can achieve based on your character level. Not something we are interested in adding. Sounds like a great strategy to keep Vraes nice and safe through the beginning of the game, and you'll have to adapt new strategy soon as the benefits aren't going to get much better.

I tend to base how much SS I give Vraes on how much Kyera can heal with one cast of Tears. Since I like to be able to work on her other abilities like EA and Retribution that means I only want to invest a point or two in tears early...also means I'm not wasting a bunch of SP over healing rest of party any time someone gets dinged up. Phalanx helps add Armor same as SS so you're still reducing incoming damage drastically. Personal preference and individual play style I know. Anyways back to trying to escape with my latest group

Never been too keen on Spellcasting damage, at least not with Kyera and Kjartan (not sure how Fyona and Vincent work yet). Their non damage abilities are really what keep your party going. Which lowers their Talents for damage. Which really amplifies how damage spells hit two reductions with both Armor and Resistance affecting spell damage.
They probably would shine in lower difficulties as damage dealers where their buffs/debuffs/heals aren't too essential to survival. Or at least in non IM.

plunk I like to up kj's firebolt because I hate having anyone standing around with nothing to do after the curses are laid out, Especially in boss fights. Kyera is an interesting case. Holy ret slaughters anything weak to holy like deathkin, but you have to not upgrade ea. It becomes more viable on nightmare if you run a crowd control vincent instead of kj. Fyona has a resistance reducing curse and vincent is the king of aoe magic. Energy Storm has gotten a relatively recent upgrade as well that makes it a cursing attack that inflicts -lgt resistance so the next attack hits harder. Once you add in the additional characters team building becomes even more crazy deep.

While the upgrades from Eternal Anguish 2 to 5 are pretty useless (if Kjartan is casting Choking Ash anyway), 6 is definitely more than worth the cost for that extra AP penalty. In a game with so much randomness, a skill that works 100% of the time with no randomness attached to its effect (or the one that matters) is pretty reliable. -2 AP is 2 attacks that for certain "miss" all the time.
