I see that many of the achievements have a certain amount of XP listed along with them. What does that mean? Do you get it the first time you accomplish that achievement? Is it given to one character or spread across your team?
If you had a group that went through for the first time and got all the awards they would be well ahead of any other groups.

contributor - the XP is something that your market (in this case, probably Google Play) doles out. You gain levels in GPlay. It has nothing to do with XP in the game. They just happened to choose a very common word...

You'll also notice that there's a little number at the side of your picture when you sign in with Google. This is your Gamer Level, which goes up the more GPlay XP you collect. Unfortunately the level is capped at 20; when they added XP and levels to achievements in their upgrade to the achievements system, I was straight in at the level 20 cap so it's been utterly pointless for me. If you download the Play Games App, you can keep track of your achievements, leaderboards, XP, Level and your title (based on which genre of games most of your XP comes from) all from one location. You can be browsing the leaderboards of HoS one second, the checking your ST:EiE cheevs the next. Here's the link (if you're on your phone just hit 'open with Play Store' if the option comes up. Or search for Play Games on your marketplace): play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.play.games

Hmm, I got the line about achievements and "gaining experience" the first few times I saw it on Amazon.

Yes, Amazon also supports XP and a Gamer Level, although the rules and stuff are a bit different.

Since this is the closest thread I'll Rant Here. Sorry guys.
I have to say, that I am extremely disappointed with being forced to join google plus in order to play this game "right" and get "more" out of it. I was so excited by the brand of gaming that Trese Brothers seemed to be espousing by not needing any extra permissions and having it be a solo player game. Every time I load the game now it takes a bunch of time failing to log in because I don't have a google play. I have to hit three buttons just to tell the dang thing to shut up and let me play. Often the game chokes and tells me about failure to unlock achievements. I must have over a hundred achievements that I don't want and never hoped to be annoyed by. Leader boards? This style of game is not about points! Nobody even know how many points things are worth, the numbers just go up as you kill things. woopie doo. I just want to get through the dungeon and not be constantly interrupted by having not logged into Gplus or getting an achievement after every dang battle.
I hope that there can be an offline version of this game. I have tried to only purchase games that can be played without internet connection but now the Trese Brothers have fallen into that trap. I have purchase CK Elite and HoS Episode 1 and 2 and a Paladin. I really enjoy these games. Please make Heroes of Steel playable OFFLINE without being interrupted by failure to login. I don't want to watch Google Play try to log in and tell me that I have a million points or 75 stupid achievements everytime I start the game. I haven't joined Gplus and it takes forever to tell Google Play Games and Heroes of steel to shut up and just let me play every time I open the game. I want to chop orcs and finish the story.
Please make an OFFLine version that doesn't choke on every "failed" "achievement."
End Rant.

gamerindisguise - thanks for the feedback! We have it on our todo list to continue to work on this. If you want to play offline, why are you signed in to GPlay?

If you want to play offline, why are you signed in to GPlay? I am not signed into Gplay. I have never signed into Gplay. I have to tell it to not sign me in every time I open the game. It tries to sign in automatically, and even when I have the Wifi off on my device, I have to tell not to sign in. And even after I do that after every combat, or finishing a story line quest, an error message or more pops up telling me that the unwelcome Achievement I just earned failed to be unlocked because I'm not signed into Gplay. For a while it was crashing the game. But somehow that stopped. Thanks guys. I have much hope. And still enjoy your games. CKe continues to be a great game that allows me to actually play solo.

gamerindisguise - the behavior your are referencing is not the intended behavior. If you sign in / sign out, the game will remember that preference and honor it. Have you ever signed into GPlay on the device? The second part about the pop-up is a Google API thing we are trying to fix.

I have to agree with agamerindisguise. The behavior of it, if you're not signed in, is quite annoying. And once you've signed in, it's even worse. If you sign out it just keeps trying to sign you in every time you go to the main menu. That was before I rooted. Now that I flashed a new ROM and imported my saves using Titanium backup I get two messages every time I go to the main menu about signing in and I don't even have Google Play Games on my tablet. If I didn't have a high degree of trust in you guys and faith that this isn't the intended behavior I would probably be pretty P.O.ed

Is anyone else having this behavior? On my two devices, the game successfully remembers my preference (signed in or out). If I signed out, I can close / kill the app and start it again and it simply does not try to sign me in again. If I sign in, then every time I open the app it signs me in. As soon as I sign out, my preference is set and it does not attempt to sign me in again ...
Are you on the latest version of the game?

I do have the same problem as I don't have a G+ account. Every time I start the game it tries to sign me in. I hit cancel and then have deal with Google's next screen trying to get me to select or create a new account. We I stop a game in progress, it ties again and I have to go through it all over. It has never remembered that I didn't sign in or that I don't want to. I am still undecided on upgrading my gmail account because of the problems before with people being locked out of their accounts because their names didn't match what Google thought was a name. I am a refugee of the Nymwars. I have no pastures to call my own. I roam the digital landscape a lonely and unwanted electric sheep Personally I think the problem is more Google's fault than the TB's.

I just tested several times and it worked fine for me on Nexus 5, HoS 2.2.29. If I log out of Google Play and use the quit button or kill HoS, then next time I open HoS it just leaves me logged out of Google Play, not pop ups or other requests. fallen, Unlike you and for whom this is working well, the people having problems never logged into google play to begin with. Could that be a factor in this problem? Y'all having problems should report your version number. I seem to recall having similar problems with an earlier version of HoS before I logged into Google Play the first time.

Perhaps the issue is about an account / game that has never logged in? Then the preference may not be set? I will test some and try to figure this out. More info on the thread would be helpful. As noted, tenbsmith is reporting the expected, polite behavior of the app. The other reports are NOT the intended behavior and for that we apologize.
