Decided to pick up my Hunder game again. I like the idea of having a shotgun, but before I bankrupt my lunch money account on Heavy ammo (my butt is so broke on Crazy its... Crazy.), I wanted to know what everyone else used for their Hunder's combat skill.
Oh, and what weapons do you plan on using? (Shock blasters, machine pistols, sniper rifles...)

I use the good old "blue glove" for capture missions and in case anyone gets too close and an anti-materiel rifle if I want my hunder to actually participate in fights. But my 3 hunds have evo-rigging 2 and vok-injectors 2 plus hardened armor, so with 11 athletics and brawling plus thrash I don't really need to contribute much However I do play at a much lower difficulty so that certainly could make a huge difference.

I want to hook my Hund up with stun jaws and eventually build a team with an Agent Ex (I love their Runner art) and a Sniper/another Hund OR a Face or Hacker for special jobs and fun. Aaaahhhh I don't recall having to consider this so carefully before! When did this happen?!

As an example, one of my hunds was attacked by a Blue Ox Hyper Punk while wearing top tier Blue Ox armor and with the aforementioned augments, I used Evade once, her defense jumped to 25. Next turn, Thrash, then Attack, she did 15 HP damage. Ridiculous. I've just been switching weapons around with my Knight to experiment and figure out what I like best. The Hunds give me a lot of leeway to do that. But I need to stop bragging or when/if they get nerfed everyone will blame me

Officer - Shock Maw 2 is absolutely hands down awesome. Less heat plus an easier time with capture missions? Can't beat it. Get a high brawling stat, shock maw, and thrash and you can even drop those dang 20 MP Horizon drones pretty quick. However I would keep physical damage weapons handy too, since with those drones its a lot fast to smash em up that way. But shock maw 2s are sooooooo worth it. My girls are absolute monsters now. Also I would highly recommend some hardened armor for them as well, if you can afford it. Not sure if armor surplus/arms race and whatnot affects hund armor prices but you should hope it does. They ain't cheap.
*SPOILER ALERT!*
Blue Ox Tier 3 armor is totally sweet, but on my difficulty it runs around 5k a pop, so for you it should be about a million times more expensive, but its worth it. Plus 2 to dodge and 7 ballistic til you get in close, I haven't had a hund drop below 6 HP since I got it. Sorry for all the space this post hogged, I don't know how to to the thing where it blacks out spoilers. Good luck with that crazy difficulty, bro.

We're not afraid of text walls. I'm glad the tasers and armors are worth the investment because getting a Hunder rig alone (just for the CK) is like 3000 credits. I can get maybe 250-300 safely if I don't mind having to wait out the Heat after a half-dozen jobs. O.o On the other hand, I bought a basic Hund suit for 768 credits and it really helped that pooch a lot- now I just need to improve his actual hit rate. At the moment, my CK is sporting a Ballistic Vest (like 3-4 armor deflect with 1-2 dodge) and his basic pistols while a Cybersword Runner is wearing nothing but his birthday suit and the Bam-Bam club he came with. I'm surprised he lasted this long, honestly. But anyway, I have around 1.4k after one nerve-wracking surprise escort to Yakuza territory WAY north and a raid back home in LV territory (hey, money is money and LV likes to shoot at their friendly CK anyway...), so I might try to get a better gun first (never had money for an actual upgrade). But those jaws... Ahh, now my life is so difficult!! (First world problems a-ho!)

Personally I would try to upgrade your hunds first, at least if you use them the way I do. Until I got shock maw the only real use for my main char was stunning targets in capture missions and paying for hotels ;P Once they're souped up they can tangle with KH/BS drone squads without breaking a sweat. I'd be willing to bet we'll see some specific anti-hund enemies within an update or two.

I finally got enough money to get me and my first Hund Evo Rigs and a Brave Star kill squad (who I haven't even messed with, I just happened to cross territory they were warring with) killed my Hund. I'm going to kill everyone of those bastards I see now. I was aiming to be on good terms with them this game, but they went and pissed me off. Brace yourselves, Coward Stars- the Black Hole is coming!!! >=[

Nothing better than a vendetta to set the story of a game!

Well, the next BS patrol promptly killed that CK too, but this next play through will definitely pick on BS! Oh yeah, I tried renaming a knight from the main menu (the game startup menu) it never renamed the Knight? )l

I'm guessing its a game balance thing but I can't stand how shotguns have less of an effective range than handguns. As far as handguns though, I'm thoroughly spoiled on tranq guns.

Same here, especially when gang bosses get 6-7 range by 30+exp...

I'm a gloves guy. I could easily kill a KH squad on my crazy setting knight (i have like 70 nano medikits....I was like no way am I ever dying) but my hunds do it all for me. I literally just walk 1-3 paces to kill my AP.

Just got my hunder to 250xp on hard. I'm using an assault rifle, it's got enough range to be able to provide support for all my hunds and hits hard. He rarely moves and his hunds stay near him (generally within range of his gun). Shock maw II is indeed awesome. I have it on 2 hounds, saving for the 3rd.
